Disney on Ice skaters perform banned lift that goes wrong in front of crowd full of families

Two Disney on Ice skaters dressed as Ariel and Prince Eric crashed onto the ice during a show after a dangerous lift went wrong. The video has left thousands of viewers worried.

A Disney on Ice performance took a scary turn when a high-risk lift went wrong and sent two skaters crashing onto the ice in front of the crowd. It happened during a show in San Jose, California, on October 25.

The skaters were dressed as Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid and were performing to “Part of Your World.” A video of the moment was posted on TikTok and it quickly went viral.

A move so risky it’s actually banned

For their big finale, the pair went for a move ominously known as the “headbanger.”

In the lift, one skater holds their partner by the ankle and spins them around and around, with their head just above the ice. It’s so dangerous that the International Skating Union, which oversees competitive skating, has banned it in competitions.

In the video, the audience cheers as “Eric” starts spinning “Ariel.” They get through five full rotations. Then he seems to lose his footing, and they both go down hard. After a moment, the two skaters slowly get back up. They skate off arm in arm toward the side of the rink and wave goodbye to the kids in the crowd, as if nothing had happened.

“When a Disney On Ice Stunt Goes Wrong… But Watch How They Recover!” the TikTok user wrote.

Viewers left worried

The clip has drawn more than 7,700 comments, and many viewers were shaken. “Why does that move need to be part of the choreography,” one person asked.

“No because that actually looked BAD,” another wrote. One commenter who said they knew the skating world explained that Disney on Ice performers do the move week after week, and that sometimes things go wrong. They said they expected she had a concussion and asked people to be respectful.

Others were impressed by how the pair handled it. “The way they just waved, and that’s showbiz,” one wrote.

A spokesperson for Feld Entertainment, which produces Disney on Ice, told Tyla that both skaters were uninjured and kept performing as scheduled.
