Michael J. Fox has been one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces for decades.
But while his own career made him a household name, his youngest daughter has quietly been building a life of her own, far from the spotlight.
Now, a rare collection of family photos has given fans a glimpse of the 25-year-old – and they’re noticing something striking about her famous father.
Love story that began on set
Michael J. Fox and actress Tracy Pollan first met while working together on the hit sitcom Family Ties. Pollan played his character’s girlfriend, and what began as an on-screen romance eventually turned into something much bigger.
Fox once wrote in one of his autobiographies that, for at least a decade after he and Pollan got married, they couldn’t go dancing anywhere in the country without someone playing Billy Vera and The Beaters’ ”At This Moment.
The 1981 song had become forever linked to Alex and Ellen’s romance on Family Ties – and apparently, fans weren’t about to let the real-life couple forget it.
But for Fox and Pollan, the romance was about to become something even more meaningful than a beloved TV storyline.
The couple married in July 1988, just as Fox’s career was taking off. Their first child, Sam Michael Fox, arrived in May 1989.
However, the newlyweds had barely begun settling into life as a family when they were faced with news that would change everything.
In 1991, just two years after becoming a father, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of only 29.
At the time, he was enjoying enormous success, and most fans had no idea what he was going through. He initially kept the diagnosis private before revealing it publicly in 1998. Since then, he has become one of the world’s best-known advocates for Parkinson’s research.
The diagnosis came early in the couple’s family life. Sam was only two, and their three daughters had yet to be born.
Fox and Pollan welcomed twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler in February 1995. Their youngest, Esmé Annabelle, arrived on November 3, 2001.
By then, Fox had also established the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which would become a major part of his life and eventually bring the whole family together around a shared cause.
”It’s kind of all they know”
In November 2025, Tracy Pollan spoke about how her husband’s diagnosis had shaped their family over the years.
Speaking at the foundation’s annual fundraising gala in New York City, she explained that Parkinson’s had been part of her children’s lives for as long as they could remember.
”Michael was diagnosed before the girls were born and very, very early into Sam’s life, so it’s kind of all they know, really,” she said.
But being familiar with the condition hasn’t made it easy for the family.
”It’s very difficult for the family, for the caregivers, and obviously for the patient, so I think it’s also important to acknowledge that, and acknowledge that it’s not just all sort of easy. It’s not easy,” Pollan admitted.
She also said their children had become incredibly supportive, adding that she often relied on them as the challenges of Fox’s condition continued to evolve.
Despite everything, Fox and Pollan have worked hard to give their children the freedom to find their own paths.
In a 2013 interview with Good Housekeeping, later revisited by Good Morning America, Fox explained that he wanted his children to appreciate life, respect others, and stay curious about what they could achieve.
He didn’t want them to feel they had to follow in his footsteps. Instead, he hoped they would discover their own interests and build lives that were truly theirs.
The daughter he once said was most like him
Over the years, each of the four Fox children has developed their own interests.
Their eldest, Sam, has pursued opportunities in the entertainment world, while Aquinnah, Schuyler, and Esmé have largely stayed out of the public eye.
But Fox once revealed that his youngest daughter shared a particularly strong connection with him.
Back in 2013, when Esmé was still a child, he told Good Housekeeping: ”My littlest one, Esmé, is the most like me.”
He described a curious and creative girl who loved reading, making little movies on her computer, dressing up, and writing books about the places the family visited.
Those interests seem to have stayed with her as she grew up, although she has chosen a career path of her own.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Esmé graduated from Duke University in 2025, where she studied global cultural studies and literature.
She has since gained experience through internships at the Tampa Bay Times and Bloomberg News. Her professional background also includes working as a production assistant with NBC’s Today show – a very different route from her father’s life in front of the camera.
Esmé has also found ways to support the cause that has been so important to her family. In November 2025, she took part in the New York City Marathon to raise money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
The following March, she joined her sister Schuyler in the 2026 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon. Their parents were there to support them afterward.
Michael J. Fox shares rare photos
As the children have grown older, Fox and Pollan have entered a new chapter of family life.
In an October 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the couple spoke about becoming empty nesters after their youngest had moved out. Fox joked, however, that the house rarely stayed empty for long.
With four grown children, Pollan explained, someone was usually coming home for a visit.
The family has continued to share important moments together, including in January 2025, when all four children joined their parents in Washington, D.C., as Fox received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
More recently, they were all there to support him at the 2026 Emmy Awards, where he received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
Fox’s health challenges have become more visible over the years, including at public appearances where he has used a wheelchair. During his Emmy acceptance speech, he thanked his wife and children for their patience, sacrifices, and love.
And on November 3, 2026, the actor turned his attention to a much more personal milestone: Esmé’s 25th birthday.
Rather than sharing just one picture, Fox posted a collection of photographs showing different stages of her life, from childhood memories to more recent family moments and achievements.
He accompanied the photos with a sweet message, calling his daughter ”Ezzie” and reflecting on all the different versions of her he had watched grow up.
”Ezzie, you’ve been many people over the last quarter century…all of them fabulous! Happy birthday, I love you so much! 🧡”
Fans can’t get over how much she looks like her dad
The birthday photos quickly caught fans’ attention, and it wasn’t just the milestones that people were talking about.
Many noticed how strongly Esmé resembles her famous father, particularly around the eyes.
”Same eyes ! 🥰” one person wrote.
Another agreed, commenting: ”She has mikes eyes”.
Others also spotted the resemblance, with one follower writing: “Happy birthday!! Looks so much like her father 🎀🥳”
Another shared a longer birthday message: ”She looks so much like you, Michael! Happy happy-happy birthday, young lady! May it be filled with love and joy with your family and friends.”
Not everyone focused on the family resemblance. Some simply wanted to send Esmé their best wishes.
”She’s beautiful. Happy birthday,” one person wrote.
Another commented: “Wow she looks the same in every picture! Congrats!”
The reactions brought a wave of warmth to Fox’s post, with fans getting a rare look at the daughter who has largely grown up away from the public eye.
A family that has grown through every challenge
There’s something especially meaningful about seeing how much has changed since Esmé was born in 2001.
By then, her father had already spent a decade living with Parkinson’s and had begun turning his personal experience into a worldwide effort to fund research and raise awareness.
Now, 25 years later, his youngest daughter has graduated from university, started building a career in television, and taken part in events supporting the foundation that carries his name.
For Fox and Pollan, those achievements are part of a much bigger family story – one shaped by love, difficult moments, and the determination to keep moving forward.
And perhaps that’s what makes the actor’s birthday tribute so touching. After watching his youngest daughter grow through so many different chapters of life, he summed up his feelings in just a few words: ”all of them fabulous.”
