In April 2018, Chip and Joanna Gaines, everyone’s favorite home improvement couple on HGTV, fixed their last home on the wildly successful Fixer Upper.

The couple truly believed they needed a break, according to Chip, and they took a well-deserved rest to spend more time with their five children.

But during that time the couple never stopped working, designing, and fixing spaces, and they got to thinking, what if they brought back the show that had become a “permanent fixture in our hearts” and aired it on their new network?

The couple, who have five children ranging in age from 2-15, announced the news Tuesday morning.

The couple shared a video to their social media channels and Chip published a blog post detailing their decision behind the exciting news.

“In a lot of ways, the show is going to pick up right where it left off. These years in between have taught us a lot about ourselves and how we operate best, so we’re likely to do a few things a little differently this time around,” Chip wrote.

The reboot is slated to air on the Gaineses’ new network, the Magnolia Network, which was scheduled to premiere in October, but due to coronavirus-related shutdowns had to be pushed back.

While the return of Fixer Upper, which saw 19.6 million viewers on a weekly basis, is welcomed, the Gaineses’ intention to bring it back shocked the network.

“We had not been planning with this network to include Fixer Upper,” Magnolia Network President President Allison Page told Deadline. “When they said good-bye to the show three years ago next month, they said they needed a break but as it turns out — and thankfully — a break is literally what it was.”

Fixer Upper is a cultural phenomenon that took an entire programming category by storm when it launched in 2014, and we can think of no better way to launch this network.”
