Dennis Quaid is a man of God and not shy to show it

Many know Dennis Quaid from his range of comedic and dramatic roles, but the casual fan may not be aware that the 67-year-old actor is also a musician.

A musician who calls upon his faith in Christianity for inspiration.

In 2018, while the Hollywood star was filming a faith-based film, he wrote a song for his mother, who he promised one day he would write her a gospel song.

Quaid, who was baptized at nine, said he’s “always been spiritual.”

“I grew up in a Southern Baptist church, became disillusioned with it as a teenager. I turned to Eastern religions and philosophies,” he told The Chicago Sun-Times.

While searching for the right religion for him, he read the Bible twice, read the Koran, and visited India nine times. But he said each time he found himself coming back to Christianity.

“We’re all spiritual beings whether we know it or not,” he added. “So that’s what I speak to: one’s relationship with God or non-relationship with God.”

In 2018, Quaid wrote an original song for the film I Can Only Imagine, which followed the life of Mercy Me’s frontman Bart Millard. He also starred in the film.

The song, “On My Way to Heaven,” was a tribute to his mother. He had always promised he would write her a gospel song, and he delivered on his promise for her 91st birthday, according to CBN News.

“I wrote it for my mom because my mom has always been there, her faith is unquestionable, so solid. So I wrote it for her, but I guess it’s my story.”

The songs explains what he believes the afterlife is like.

My life may not be roses
But still I’m gonna be alright
Long as I got my Savior by my side
He freed me from the heavy chains
That had bound my broken heart
Picked me up, gave me a brand new start
Now I’m on my way to Heaven
On my way to Heaven
I’m on my way to Heaven
So I can’t be stayin’ long…

Quaid plans to release an inspirational album sometime this year.

I think it’s a lovely song.

I applaud the celebrities who are so open about their faith, especially when being religious can be seen as controversial.

Please share this beautiful story.
