Over the weekend Gwyneth Paltrow shared a sweet photo of herself and her mother, Blythe Danner, in honor of Danner’s 80th birthday.
“Happy 80th to you my wonderful mother,” she wrote on Instagram. “You are a joy to behold, so beautiful and strong. We all love you so very much.”
The Meet the Parents and Will & Grace actor turned 80 on February 3. To celebrate the milestone birthday, Danner, her daughter, and grandchildren Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, took a trip to Broadway and saw Funny Girl.
Paltrow shared a selfie of the birthday trip on her Instagram Story over the weekend.
In November 2022, Danner revealed she was in remission after a years-long battle with oral cancer, the same type of cancer that killed her husband Bruce Paltrow in 2002.
She remembered when she was diagnosed in March 2018 talking to her husband.
“I remember I looked up at heaven and said to Bruce, ‘Are you lonely up there?'” she said.
“Everyone is touched by cancer in some way, but it’s unusual for a couple to have the same cancer.”
She recalled the moment she realized something was wrong.

Danner had been working in London when “I started feeling very woozy and I was forgetting everything.”
“And then I felt a lump in my neck, right next to where Bruce had found his [in 1999].”
She was later diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of oral cancer.
After finally revealing the cancer diagnosis to her family she underwent two surgeries and alternative treatments. In 2020 she underwent a third surgery which was successful in removing all of the cancerous tissue.
Two years later Danner announced she was in remission.
“I wasn’t quaking in my boots,” she said. “I don’t have any fear of death at all.”
