In 2022, Machine Gun Kelly proposed with a ring that was intentionally made to hurt if Megan Fox ever tried taking it off. And considering the pair later called off their engagement, there’s a good chance that romantic gesture became a lot less sweet over time.
The former couple first met in 2020 while filming the movie Midnight in the Switchgrass.
“It was obvious from second one what it was going to be,” she told GQ Style, according to Tyla. “I did not anticipate walking right into my soulmate like that.
“I was obviously over the way I had been living, and those paths lined up, those doors opened. It was [as if] all the obstacles that had kept us apart all those years [had been removed] and we were able to finally intersect.”
“Love is pain”
Two years later, MGK got down on one knee, sharing the proposal video on Instagram alongside the caption: “Yes, in this life and every life.
“Beneath the same branches we fell in love under, i brought her back to ask her to marry me.”
The ring itself was designed by jeweler Stephen Webster, according to Tyla. During an interview with Vogue in 2022, MGK explained that the design came with a painful twist.
“The concept is that the ring can come apart to make two rings. When it’s together, it’s held in place by a magnet,” he said.
“So you see how it snaps together? And then it forms an obscure heart. And you see this right here? The bands are actually thorns. So if she tries to take it off, it hurts…”
He continued: “Love is pain!”
They broke off their engagement
When Megan Fox later made an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she revealed that the engagement had been called off.
“I think that what I’ve learned from being in this relationship is that it’s not for public consumption,” she said.
“I think, as of now, I don’t have a comment on the status of the relationship, per se. What I can say is [he] is what I refer to as being my ‘twin soul’ and there will always be a tether to him, no matter what.
“I can’t say for sure what the capacity will be, but I will always be connected to him somehow. Beyond that, I’m not willing to explain.”
In November 2024, she revealed that the couple were expecting a child together, and in March 2025 they shared the news that their baby girl had arrived. According to reports they currently have a co-parenting relationship, but does not seem to be back together.
