Kelly Clarkson added to the fun and unpredictability of the Las Vegas Strip before her performance at the iHeart Radio Music Festival.
The 41-year-old singer and talk show host was on her way to rehearsals when she came across a street musician performing Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
Wanting to recognize her efforts, Clarkson tipped the musician, and to her surprise the woman asked if she would join her for a duet.
The best part is the street performer had no clue the random woman she asked to join her was the winner of the first season of American Idol.
Take a walk down the Las Vegas Strip, and you’ll find plenty to look at. From restaurants to bars to street performers to people who may have had a few too many to drink.
There’s never a dull moment in Vegas.
And that certainly proved to be the case Saturday when Clarkson came across a woman singing Tina Turner on the sidewalk.
“I was on my way to soundcheck for @iHeartRadio tonight in Vegas and was tipping this incredible woman killing some Tina Turner,” Clarkson wrote on her social media. “And then she asked me to sing and had no clue who I was, and then it hit her, and it made my day! She gives the best hugs and sings her tail off! See ya tonight Vegas.”
Clarkson shared a clip of the impromptu performance on her social media with many praising her for the “sweet authentic” moment.
In the clip the woman is seen jamming along to Clarkson before she pauses and clearly recognizes the Grammy-winning singer.
“Are you f—ing me?”
Later, at the music festival, Clarkson elaborated on the impromptu surprise performance.
“I was like, ‘Oh, we gotta dip into the pocket for that,'” she said. “So I got my wallet out and I was gonna just go tip her, and then she was like, ‘Sing with me, baby.’ I was like, ‘Alright’ and then I started singing and then she literally went, ‘Are you Kelly Clarkson?’ And I was like, ‘Yes, but I didn’t want to be a tool about it.'”
