Timothée Chalamet was nominated in the Best Actor category at the 2026 Oscars. He appeared at the event with his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. Also attending the event was Timotheé’s sister, actress Pauline Chalamet.
And it seems people have opinions about how the meeting between the sister and the girlfriend went. Keep reading to learn more.
Before the 2026 Oscars began, actor Timothée Chalamet, his sister Pauline Chalamet, and girlfriend Kylie Jenner shared a moment which a lot of people perceived as ‘awkward.”
30-year-old Timothée Chalamet was nominated in the category for Best Actor for his lead role in Marty Supreme. This was not Chalamet’s first nomination, having been nominated previously for Call Me by Your Name in 2017 and A Complete Unknown in 2024.
The award, as we know by now, was won by Michael B. Jordan for his double role as the twins Smoke and Stack in Sinners.
As for Chalamet’s sister, Pauline Chalamet, she made her film debut in 2020 in Judd Apatow’s comedy The King of Staten Island. She then went on to star in the HBO Max show The Sex Lives of College Girls from 2021 to 2025. She is also appearing in this highly anticipated upcoming film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, alongside Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt.
The video, which has now been making rounds on social media shows Pauline approaching her brother at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Timothée gets up from his seat to greet Pauline, and the two talk to each other. Pauline then gestures to Kylie who was had been sitting beside Timothée.
Kylie seems suprised to see Pauline before she praises her outfit and extends her arm to invite the other woman to hug her. The siblings then turn to cameras and pose for photos. In this moment, Chalamet takes the opportunity to whisper a request to his sister. A request which was later deciphered by lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling.
Hickling spoke to The Mirror US and told them that in the video, Chalamet first checks in on his sister asking her, “How are you doing?” and then leaning in to allegedly whisper “Could you go easy on her? I want you to go easy on her.”
According to Hickling, Pauline responds with merely saying “Okay.” Kylie has been dating actor Chalamet since April 2023 when they were first linked together. Later at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in January, Timothée referred to her as his “partner of three years.”
Even though the couple has been dating for three years, it seems after the interaction betweel Pauline and Kylie, people think they might have never met before.
One person posted on X, “My question is, are they just meeting for the first time?” while another stated, “Pauline hates all the things the Kardashians stand for… so I’m sure it’s the first time meeting.” While another chimed in with, “Uhm awkward. Have they never met before ?”
Others thought they did not like one another, one person wrote, “The sister didn’t even want to hug her”
Judi James, a body language expert provided everyone with her analysis and said, “Kylie suddenly rips into a ritual that seems to signal utter shock and deep surprise to see Timothee’s sister there.”
“Her eyebrows steeple, her eyes widen, and her mouth falls open as she stretches one hand out in the kind of small flapping that would normally pull someone in for a kiss. She gets up to greet her but the greetings are rather quick and awkward-looking with little apparent reaction from Timothee’s sister beyond the polite,” she added.
