According to a family friend speaking to the Daily Mail, Hilton is physically recovering after receiving extensive treatment for his injuries and is expected to be okay.
But the emotional side of his recovery may be much harder.
The friend claims Hilton has received little to no support from the celebrity friends he once considered close, saying that none had sent flowers or get-well cards despite years of friendships and reconciliations with Hollywood figures.
“It’s sad really, how little people are rallying behind him. People who have told him they love him, but where are they?” they asked. “He’s about to find out who his real friends are,” a friend added.
Hilton became one of the internet’s most recognizable celebrity gossip personalities in the mid-2000s, building relationships with stars including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Adele and Spencer Pratt.
His family is reportedly also shielding him from some of the harsher reactions online. Alec Baldwin’s daughter, Ireland Baldwin, appeared to wish him well while also calling him a “piece of sh*t,” a comment the family reportedly fears could negatively affect his recovery.
His family is now focused on his recovery — and his children
Hilton’s sister, Barbara Lavandeira, later spoke publicly about the incident, explaining that she was the person who discovered him in distress and immediately got his three children out of the house before emergency services arrived. She said the family has been trying to protect the children from the trauma surrounding what happened.
His mother has also filed for temporary custody of his three children, with the family saying their safety and emotional well-being are the priority while Hilton remains hospitalized.
The hospitalization also comes after a difficult period for Hilton personally. He had recently dealt with serious health problems, including hospitalization for sepsis, and had spoken publicly about feeling overwhelmed and struggling with the changes in his life. Friends have suggested that his physical health problems, financial pressures and recent move to Miami may have contributed to the crisis, although the exact reasons remain private.
Interestingly, Hilton had also been trying to make peace with his past shortly before the incident. He spoke about apologizing to celebrities he had targeted during his years as a controversial gossip blogger, admitting that the way he treated some people continued to weigh heavily on him.
Meanwhile, the family friend says Hilton has been turning toward his faith, spending time reading the Bible and praying while he remains in hospital.
His website is expected to continue operating, although the tone may change, with future content reportedly becoming less focused on attacking or mocking celebrities.
For now, those close to him say the focus is on his recovery — both physically and emotionally. His family has asked for privacy and emphasized that he remains under medical and mental-health care. As of the latest family update, he is still hospitalized nearly two weeks after the incident.
