O.J. Simpson, the former Pro Football Hall of Famer infamous for his 1995 double murder trial, revealed in May 2023 that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Simpson, 76, disclosed in a video that he had already undergone chemotherapy, meaning that his diagnosis had likely occurred some time earlier.
Simpson also revealed that he had been battling Covid and cancer simultaneously.
Fast forward to February 2024, reports from Miami’s Local 10 detailed that Simpson is presently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. However, it remains unclear whether this relates to the previously mentioned battle or if it signifies a new diagnosis. Sources close to Local 10 allege that Simpson is battling with prostate cancer and is receiving treatment in Las Vegas.
While Simpson has not directly addressed the recent cancer reports on X, he did reassure his followers that he is not in hospice care, contrary to certain claims made by sources. Just prior to the Super Bowl, he took to X to say: “All is well,” mentioning that he was hosting friends for the event in Las Vegas.
Photographs captured in November 2023, as reported by the New York Post, show Simpson looking noticeably frail. However, in his recent X post, where he is sitting in his car, he does not appear as obviously frail.
Simpson’s athletic legacy includes winning the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1968 and achieving renown as the first running back to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season in 1973 during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills, per ESPN.
However, his career has been marred by legal troubles, most notably his arrest and subsequent acquittal in the highly publicized trial for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, in 1995.
Several years later, in 2007, Simpson faced legal troubles again, this time for armed robbery in Las Vegas. Sentenced to 33 years in prison in 2008, he served 9 years before being granted parole.
