For years, Pamela Anderson was known for her signature glamor, complete with smoky eyes, heavily lined lips and the unmistakable beauty look that defined much of the 1990s and early 2000s. But in recent years, the actress has taken a very different approach to her appearance – and the reason behind that change is deeply personal.
Pamela Anderson has spoken openly about her decision to embrace life without makeup, explaining that losing someone close to her played a major role in the choice. Her longtime makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, died of breast cancer in 2019.
“She was the best,” Anderson said of Vogel and their working relationship during an interview with Elle.
“And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”
Anderson continues to challenge beauty expectations, choosing a more natural look for many of her public appearances. She has described going without makeup as “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious,” and has reflected on how much her perspective has changed over the years.

Speaking to PEOPLE, she explained: “I love to wear makeup too sometimes.
“It has a time and a place. I just feel in my personal life, it just didn’t really make sense.”
For Anderson, beauty has come to mean something far more significant than wearing pretty makeup.
“Being brave and living your dreams. It’s never too late,” she said when describing what beauty means to her.
She has also spoken about leaving Hollywood behind and returning to her native Canada.
“[It] was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself,” she told Better Homes and Gardens magazine, according to LADbible.
“I was not in a good space when I moved back to Canada.”
Anderson continued: “I don’t know what happened over the last few decades, but I feel now so far removed from the image of who I was. I felt very sad and lonely.
“It came to a point where I decided to move home and disappear and get into my garden.”
