Rob Lowe thanks his ‘tribe’ as he celebrates 33 years of sobriety: ‘Hope and joy are waiting’

Rob Lowe is taking the time to thank everyone who has helped him on his path to recovery as he celebrates 33 years sober.

The actor marked the major milestone with shirtless selfie post on Instagram thanking his “tribe” for helping him through life.

“33 years ago today I found recovery and a tribe that has sustained me on my incredible, grateful journey,” he wrote on the May 10 post. “My life is full of love, family, God, opportunity, friends, work, dogs and fun.”

Lowe also offered words of encouragement to those who may be struggling.

“If you or someone you know is struggling with any form of addiction: hope and joy are waiting if you want it, and are willing to work for it!”

His post was met with praise from celebrity friends, fans, and even his kids. His son John Owen wrote, “Proud of your recovery, opposite feeling about this selfie.”

In April, while on The Drew Barrymore Show, Lowe gifted John Owen his five-year chip.

Barrymore was discussing her recovery when Lowe commented about his recovery and his 28-year-old son’s own journey.

“Johnny’s got five years. In fact, Johnny’s five-year birthday was on Saturday, and Johnny, I want to give you your five-year chip. I love you, proud of you … proud of you buddy.”

John Owen previously spoke about how his father helped him with his addicition.

“On the most personal level possible, when I was struggling with addiction, he was always there for me,” he told People in January 2022. “I credit that with being one, if not the main, reason that I’m sober and living a healthy lifestyle.”

“He never gave up on me.”

Congratulations Rob! Thirty-three years is an amazing accomplishment and an inspiration to all of those in recovery.
