Simon Cowell is known for his brand of blunt, brutal honesty — as a judge on shows like American Idol, America’s Got Talent and The X Factor, he never held back what was on his mind.
But now Cowell is on the receiving end of some harsh honesty, as fans are shocked by his new looks after the judge underwent “too much botox.”
Yesterday, Simon Cowell shared a new Instagram video, congratulating the boy band One Direction for reaching 1 billion streams on Spotify for their debut single “What Makes You Beautiful.” Cowell’s Syco Music record label signed the band in 2010 after they competed on the British X Factor.
But viewers cared less about the news and more about how Cowell looked in the video. The music mogul looked unrecognizable, seemingly the result of a little too much cosmetic work gone wrong.
“What on earth has happened to your face?” one comment reads.
“The Botox is wearing off Simon,” another said.
“You used to look good before the plastic surgery,” another fan wrote.
It’s not a secret that Cowell has gotten cosmetic done over the years, and as a media celebrity it isn’t surprising: Cowell has said the work done to his face has allowed him to extend his career. In 2018, he told Sun on Sunday that he had a non-surgical “sewing bioplastic-infused thread” facelift.
“There’s lots of things you can do now. You don’t just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox,” Cowell said, as quoted by Hello. “It hurts like hell but it gets rid of sun damage and unplugs all the crap… For me now, it’s all about having clean skin. If you have clean skin, you look better. But you have to be very careful with some of this stuff.”
Cowell said the Botox “added 10 years” to his career, though he said he may have overdone it: “Hopefully I look better now – I probably did have a little too much Botox a couple of years ago, because everyone on TV has it.”
But over the years, Cowell has often looked unrecognizable to fans, and cosmetic surgery experts warn he may have gone too far.
“I think he’s had some bad Botox. If botox is injected too far out on the side of the forehead, it can cause the forehead and eyebrows to droop,” plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn told Radar Online in 2019.
“I strongly advise my clients to do a little and add to it if necessary, therefore they look rested and natural. This is definitely a case where less would have been more,” added aesthetic injector Kristina Kitsos.
While he’s been the butt of a lot of jokes about his new looks, Cowell says he’s taking it all in stride. When asked about jokes made by TV presenters Ant and Dec about his “new face,” Cowell laughed it off.
“I think it’s hysterical,” he told The Mirror in April. “I mean, it just makes me laugh. I haven’t had a facelift or anything. I’ve had a bit of Botox or whatever, but nothing drastic. So when I hear about this stuff, honestly it does make me laugh.”
Everyone has a right to get work done if they choose, but Simon Cowell may have overdone it in a way that’s leaving him looking unrecognizable 😬
