Australian tourist calls out American patriotism, believes there’s too many flags on display in the US

The United States and patriotism go together like peanut butter and jelly. There are few countries that display their unrelenting pride as publicly as Americans, and for visitors that can be a shock.

An Australian woman who shared videos on TikTok about “traveling the world on a budget & no brain cells,” called out the number of American flags she came across while visiting the United States.

Mia Chloe, who went by the username @meanderwithmia, complained there were “too many American flags” in the US.

Her observations did not go over well.

“I’m just going to say it. There are too many American flags. They’re on houses. They’re on cars. Some are on couch cushions,” she said in her since deleted video. “You’re the only country that I know that does this.”

Mia, who was walking down a suburban street, compared other countries’ patriotism to the US, pointing out that it seemed like it was only the United States that displayed so many flags.

“The only time I’ve seen an Australian flag is on the [Sydney] Harbour Bridge… [I] could not tell you what it looks like. I know it’s, like, blue and it’s got some stars on it. I think I could draw the American flag from memory… I think I can make a bloody sculpture out of it. That’s how many bloody times I’ve seen it.”

“It’s enough. Let’s stay humble.”

To say people weren’t pleased with her take would be an understatement.

Her clip has since been reuploaded to X, formerly Twitter, where hundreds of people, including the governor of Texas, have chimed in with their own thoughts.

“Go back to Australia,” Gov. Greg Abbott replied to the tweet, along with eight American flag emojis.
