The family of Samantha Hutchinson, the woman who was killed by a drunk driver hours after exchanging vows with her husband, is speaking out for the first time since her death.
Lisa Miller, Samantha’s mother, spoke with her daughter’s husband Aric Hutchinson, who was seriously injured in the crash, and he shared the heartbreaking details of her daughter’s final moments.
“She looked at him on a golf cart and said, ‘I want this day, this evening, to last forever,’ on the golf cart right before it happened,” Miller said on TODAY.
The tragic accident occurred April 28 when the newly married couple left their wedding reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina around 10 p.m. when a vehicle rear-ended the golf cart they were in.
According to a GoFundMe, the golf cart which was carrying four people, was “struck from behind by a drunk driver traveling 65 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.” The golf cart was thrown over 100 yards and flipped several times before coming to a rest.
Samantha was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband Aric was seriously injured. Two family members who were traveling with the bride and groom also suffered serious injuries.
Miller recalled watching her daughter marry the love of her life, calling the moment she exchanged her vows with Aric “beautiful.”
“My first thought was Sam finally has all the love that she’s ever wanted,” she said. “Because Eric is an equal, both their hearts are just so pure and loving and all they want to do is make sure that everybody is okay and feels good and feels happy.”
The joy spilled over into the reception.
“The dance floor was lit up. Everybody just was celebrating Sam and Eric and there was so much happiness.”
My thoughts and prayers go out to Samantha’s family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
