Widely acknowledged as one of the power couples of the modern celebrity era, everything looked to be going so well for Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner.
Yet earlier this week it was confirmed that the pair are headed for a life apart from one another, with Jonas having filed for divorce following the couple growing distant in recent months.
Needless to say, fans and followers have had plenty to say on the matter online, while all manner of rumor and speculation are but a few clicks away.
It’s said that the couple are in the process of applying for shared custody of their two children, Willa, 3, and a second daughter, 14 months old, identified only as ‘D’ in documents obtained by People Magazine.
According to Jonas’s divorce filing, the two kids have been staying with him of late.
“A parenting plan should be established, which addressed all parenting issues and contains a timesharing schedule providing for frequent and continuing contact with both parties,” the filing states. “The children have been residing with their father in Miami and other locations throughout the United States.”
Indeed, by all accounts Jonas and Turner’s marriage has been in choppy waters for a while now. Page Six claimed earlier this week that Jonas had done his utmost to try and “salvage” the union, but that his wife’s behavior left him with no choice.
A source told Page Six: “Divorce was a last resort for Joe.
“He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girl.
“An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year.
“There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported.
“It just kept building, and Joe finally reached a point where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage.”
Similarly, TMZ published a story wherein it was speculated that Game of Thrones star Turner had neglected her home life in favor of partying.
“She likes to party; he likes to stay at home,” a source told TMZ. “They have very different lifestyles.”
As is so often the way these days, the bold claim spread around the internet quickly, though many of Turner’s fans quickly moved to defend her by pointing out an obvious inconsistency.
For a bit of background, Turner, 27, has previously gone on record about her anxiety issues, stating that he preferred to remain at home while her husband was more of a social butterfly.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Turner appeared on the Conan O’Brien show, revealing: “I’m an introvert. I’m a homebody. If I could stay at home all day I would.” Jonas, however, is the complete opposite.
“Everything seems to be working out in my favor here because Joe’s a real social butterfly, so I struggle to lock him down and have him just spend time with me.
“It’s like prison for him, but it’s great for me.”
The actress went on to divulge that she had faced issues with her mental health, and was attending therapy sessions.
“I still have to do it every week,” Turner said of the therapy.
“Occasionally, I go on a retreat to check myself, and I still have days when I feel depressed or anxious. It’s manageable now — I have the tools.”
In light of the claims leveled against her, Turner’s fans took to Twitter in droves to use her previous statements as contradicting evidence.
“HELLOOOO Joe Jonas’ team is not the ‘source’ putting out those sus headlines about Sophie. The media wants to sell you a story and yall are foolishly buying the hell out of it in a very embarrassing and disrespectful way,” one Twitter user wrote.
A second added: “Sophie Turner has been speaking for years about her anxiety and how she likes to stay home and Joe Jonas likes to go and party…so the reason he’s divorcing her is because SHE likes to party? This makes no sense.”
“The way the media has been portraying sophie turner after the divorce was announced is so weird..” a third mused.
“Something is seriously wrong with the narrative being spun,” another said.
