In March 2011, Danielle looked out of the window from her house on Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina and saw something that prompted her to quickly grab her video camera. Her children and their friends were playing on the swings in the playground behind her house when the distant sounds of “Retreat (Evening Colors,” the tune played as the flag is lowered at the end of the day, filled the air. And just like that, the children hopped off the swings and without the any adults around, showed their true own colors. For the remainder of the ceremony, the Marine Corps kids stood at attention and paid their respects to the flag and to the Marines. The proud mama of these kids then posted the video on YouTube, where it’s been seen more than 1.7 million times. And as one commenter recently wrote: “I would like to say that all these children deserve to be given a pat on the back. They are a credit not only to their parents but to themselves. God bless them.” Watch the touching video below!
