More than $1 million has been raised for the six-year-old boy who lost his entire family in the mass shooting that took place in Allen, Texas at the weekend.
According to reports, Cindy Cho, 35, Kyu Cho, 37, and their children William, six, and James, three, were at the outlet mall in question on Saturday, May 6 when a gunman opened fire.
A total of eight people lost their lives in the mindless attack, including Cindy, Kyu, and their son James. William, though, survived the shooting, and is now having to deal with the loss of his parents and brother.
A further seven victims were wounded before the gunman was shot dead by an Allen police officer who happened to be at the outlet center on an unrelated call.
A GoFundMe page established in support of six-year-old William revealed that the boy had celebrated his birthday just four days before the atrocity took place.
The page reads: “An afternoon that should have been filled with light, love and celebration unfortunately was cut short by another mass shooting massacre that left 8 victims dead.
“Cindy, Kyu and three year old James were among those victims that tragically lost their lives and the family is in deep mourning.
“After being released from the ICU, their six-year-old son William is the only surviving member of this horrific event.
“This GoFundMe is being created to help their family. Please share this link with your family and friends.”
At the time of writing, the fundraiser for William has amassed almost $1.3million of a $50,000 goal.
An update reads: “We are so grateful for the diligent care provided by the hospital staff and for the network of friends and family helping us care for William and spending time with him.“
Elio Cumana-Rivas, 32, Christian LaCour, 20, Aishwarya Thatikonda, 27, and sisters Daniela, 11, and Sofia Mendoza, 8, were the other victims who lost their lives in Saturday’s attack.
According to reports, 33-year-old gunman Mauricio Garcia drove to the outlet mall before opening fire with an AR-15 rifle.
The US defence department has confirmed that Garcia enrolled in the US Army in June 2008, only to be “terminated three months later without completing initial entry training’ due to ‘physical or mental conditions’.
