An entire community is in mourning. 17-year-old Jesse Uch was taken from this world too soon. The high school senior was killed in a DUI crash in Thurston County, Washington.
“Jessie touched many people in her lifetime and her loss has, and will continue to have, enormous impacts on our students, staff, and community members,” Bryon Bahr the Rainier School District Superintendent said in a statement.
Jesse was involved in a two-car crash on 13800 block of Rainer Road Southeast around 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

“The Rainier School District asks that everyone join us in extending our thoughts and prayers to the entire Uch family and friends during this difficult time,” Bahr said.
So far the investigation has revealed that the 18-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and as a result veered into the oncoming traffic lane. As a result, a car traveling south hit the passenger side of the car.
The impact of the accident killed Uch. She was seated in the passenger seat according to the police. Candi Shelton who is a close friend of the Uch family and regarded Jesse as a niece is shattered after the incident.
“My family, my sister used to live right next to her for years in this town, just a couple of blocks away,” Shelton said. “She was bubbly. She was smiling. She was happy, always happy. And always sharing her sunshine around. We felt like it could have been preventable, and this is very hard and should not have happened and it happened.”
Police say that the 18-year-old driver was under the influence. According to police, he smelled of alcohol when they apprehended him at the scene. He could potentially face vehicle homicide and assault charges, according to police.
