5-year-old Harmony Montgomery’s father charged with murdering and disposing of her body

The father of Harmony Montgomery, a five-year-old New Hampshire girl who has been missing since 2019, has been charged with her murder.

Adam Montgomery, 31, of Manchester was arrested on murder charges and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday on charges including second-degree murder, falsifying physical evidence, abuse of corpse, and tampering with witnesses.

In December 2021, Manchester police asked the public for help locating Harmony. They had received a report that no one had seen the child for the past two years.

“For us to have a two-year delay, that is extremely concerning,” Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg said during a press conference at the time. “It’s not something that happens on a regular basis, not something that we deal with.”

At the time there were many unknowns, but with a thorough investigation officials determined her father, who has an extensive criminal record, was responsible for her death.

They’ve been able to figure out that Adam repeatedly struck his daughter “in the head with a closed fist, in Manchester on or about December 7, 2019.”

Officials are still searching for her remains, which they believe Adam did something to between December 7, 2019 and January 4, 2022.

“Today, I do want to again express my deepest sympathies to Harmony’s family, friends and loved ones,” Attorney General John Formella said. “We understand that today’s news, while significant for purposes of this investigation, is yet another difficult moment for those who loved Harmony and those who have followed this case.”

“I ask that in memory of Harmony, that we all make every effort to do something nice for a child today,” he said.

“I know of no other way to respect and honor this innocent and defenseless child than to extend an act of kindness to another child in her memory. Just take a few moments out of your day to say something nice to a child. Give him or her a hug, some special words of encouragement. Give them an extra hug or just simply tell them that you love them and that you’ll always protect them.”

The investigation into Harmony’s murder remains open, and police encourage anyone with information to reach out.

While a big break in the case, I can’t imagine the pain all of those who loved Harmony are experiencing. I hope justice is served.
