Bryan Kohberger murdered four students at the University of Idaho on November 13, 2022, after breaking into their off-campus home. One of the victims, 20-year-old Xana Kernodle, was not asleep at the time of the attack, and disturbing details in her autopsy reveal how she fought for her life.
Bryan Kohberger entered the off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, and murdered four University of Idaho students. He was sentenced to four life sentences without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to the four murders.
Three of the victims – Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Madison Mogen, 21; and Ethan Chapin, 20- were all killed as they were sleeping. They all suffered fatal injuries before they were able to get out of bed, the autopsy report stated.

Per Fox, the supplemental expert disclosure showed no blood at the bottom of their feet, indicating neither of them stood after suffering fatal injuries.
Meanwhile, the fourth victim, 20-year-old Xana Kernodle, was neither asleep nor in her bed. A recent unsealed court filing was obtained by People Magazine, which reveals haunting details on how she fought Kohberger before she was fatally stabbed 67 times.
Xana Kernodle’s autopsy report reveals how she fought for her life
Kernodle’s autopsy revealed she had 23 stab and incised wounds to the face, scalp, and neck, seven stab wounds to her chest, three incised and puncture wounds of the back, four stab wounds of the abdomen, 24 incised wounds of the upper extremities, and five incised wounds of the lower extremities. Evidence of blood at the bottom of her feet and blood on her body indicates she fought back as Kohberger attacked her, investigators said,
When the surviving roommate, Dylan Mortensen, was asked to identify Xana Kernodle, he initially identified her as Goncalves.

Bryan Kohberger was armed with a KA-BAR knife, placed in a knife sheath. It was left behind, which could be because he indeed chased after Kernodle. If the battle hadn’t taken place, and he had had time to collect his knife sheath, he could’ve slipped out, and evidence could’ve been lost.
As per People Magazine, Xana could also be the reason why classmates of the murderer saw him with cuts and scratches in the aftermath of the killings.
Rest in peace, Xana, Kaylee, Madison, and Ethan.
