Beloved TV anchor reveals shock breast cancer diagnosis after ‘itch’

Beloved Detroit TV anchor Jamie Edmonds has revealed a shock breast cancer diagnosis just months after receiving clear mammogram results.

As per reports, the 48-year-old has been a sportscaster with WDIV-TV for over a decade and a morning radio talk show host with WJR. She posted to her Instagram last week to explain to fans how she had received a “total gut punch” from her doctor two months ago.

Edmonds, a mother-of-one, revealed during a morning broadcast that she had initially undergone a mammogram test in July 2025 that came back clean.

Yet, months later, she was dealt a cruel blow when her doctor called.

“Two months ago, I got the call that changed my life: ‘your biopsy came back. It’s positive for breast cancer’,” she wrote on Instagram.

Edmonds recalled that after the shock had set in, she began to wonder if she would still be around for her daughter in years to come.

“Would the doctors be able to cure me? Why did this happen in the first place? I have no family history,” she wrote.

Speaking on the reason she returned to the doctor months after having received a clear mammogram, she explained that something “didn’t feel right.”

“I had a clean mammogram in July, clean, and so I’m living my life, I’m thriving, and then I felt something that didn’t feel right… it was just like I had an itch and I felt something,” she said in an interview on JR Morning.

In her post on Instagram, Edmonds continued: “Once you get the diagnosis, it’s a dark, dark time. It is scary, it’s dark. It’s going through the motions of life… it’s like you’re a ghost.”

The sportscaster detailed how she’s benefitted from the love and support of friends and family since receiving her diagnosis, but also from other women who have shared their own journeys facing cancer.

“I didn’t know this, but there is a network of survivors who band together to help the newest members of the club,” she added.

“Strangers called and texted me,” Edmonds said. “It was beautiful. I also consumed a lot of social media content of women with my same diagnosis. If they can do it, I can do it.”

As per the latest reports, Edmonds has undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and taken a step back from her morning schedule.
