Ray Lucas was on a run-of-the-mill grocery run with his girlfriend Shi’Ann Brown. When the couple got home, they saw a nightmare play out in real life; their home was on fire.

Lucas’ mother, who had been watching his 18-month-old twins was outside of the home panicking. The couples’ twin daughters Malaysia and Milan were both still inside the burning building.

Before anyone could even comprehend what was happening, Ray ran inside the burning building so he could rescue his daughters. He recalled in an interview, “I was speechless. Action took over me. I ran into the house to get my babies.” He went on, “I’m looking at it as a father. I did anything that any other father would do or should do.”

The burning house of course was filled with smoke and, Lucas could not see anything. He made his way to the basement based on memory, of where his daughters’ cribs were. He finally reached the side of his daughters and grabbed them so he could take them to safety.

He also saved his niece who had to jump through a second storey window to get to safety.

Lucas and his twin daughters spent 5 days in the intensive care unit being treated for their injuries. All of them suffered from serious burns and smoke inhalation.

Lucas had serious injuries which included second- and third-degree burns to his face, eyes, neck, and, arms. He even became blind for 3 days.

The family was incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed. They wrote an update on their fundraiser saying, “We are humbled and so thankful to “God First” and foremost for watching over our family and sparing our lives.
