Mark Harmon and Angie Harmon share the same name but are they related?

With nepo babies reaching a fever pitch, many fans are wondering if Angie Harmon is the daughter of the handsome Mark Harmon, or in any way related by blood.

But much like Audrey and Katharine Hepburn, along with Diane and Michael Keaton, all Angie and Mark share are a last name, and not through marriage.

The two however are connected, just not in the way you might think.  Keep reading to find out what ties these two beloved actors!

Mark Harmon

Born in Burbank, California to a starlet and a sports personality, Mark Harmon, 71 is one of Hollywood’s original nepo babies.

His mother, actor and model Elyse Knox–a pin-up girl best known for the 1942 film The Mummy’s Tomb and Follow the Boys (1944)–was born in Connecticut to Austrian immigrants.

His dad, Tom Harmon, was an Indiana-born halfback who started his football career playing for the University of Michigan Wolverines. The Heisman Trophy-winning player spent two seasons with the LA Rams and then went from the field to the press box as a sportscaster with ABC Radio, and later as the spokesperson for Kellogg’s cereal.

Elyse and Tom had three children, Kristin, Kelly and the youngest, Thomas Mark Harmon.

Mark’s eldest sister, the late Kristin Nelson (1945 to 2018), was married to Ricky Nelson and with him, she had twins Matthew and Gunnar–known as the rock group Nelson–and a daughter, Tracy.

Kelly, now 74, is an actor and model who was once married to John DeLorean, of the time-travelling DMC DeLorean sportscar featured in 1985’s Back to the Future.

Mark, the former quarterback with the UCLA Bruins football team, chased a career with the NFL, but hatched a new plan when he wasn’t drafted by the NFL. First exploring opportunities in the business world, he then gave into his acting instincts and joined his dad in a Kellogg’s cereal commercial. Soon after, with the help of Kristin’s in-laws Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, he landed a role in the TV series Ozzie’s Girls, which was followed by several more TV appearances.

Mark’s big break came as a series regular from 1980 to 1982 on the soap opera, Flamingo Road, where he starred alongside notable actors like Morgan Fairchild and Kevin McCarthy.

That was just the beginning for Mark, who was then cast on the medical drama St. Elsewhere, where he played the hot doctor for three seasons.

Since then, the award-winning actor played a variety of roles in film, like a teacher in Summer School, a wild west cop in Wyatt Earp, and in Freaky Friday he was the love interest to Jamie Lee Curtis.

On the smaller screen, Mark’s most notable roles include a surgeon on Chicago Hope, and Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a former sniper turned special agent in JAG and NCIS, a role he performed from 2003 to 2021.

And, as an inspiration to endearing love, Mark recently celebrated his 36th wedding anniversary to actor Pam Dawber, who’s famed for her performance as Mindy to Robin William’s Mork. Mark and Pam share two children, Sean Thomas (born 1988) and Ty Christian (born 1992). Ty is a screenwriter while actor Sean played a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS flashback episodes.

Notoriously secretive about family, Mark gushed about his sons in a rare interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying of Sean: “There’s a part of that, certainly as a dad where there’s pride involved in that…I’m proud of him taking his work seriously and how he approaches being an actor–not just on this show.” He continued, “I’m proud of both our boys, and they work hard at what they do and I’m proud that they get up in the morning and try to do that every day.”

Angie Harmon

Texas-born Angie Harmon is a 51-year-old actor, the only child of Daphne Demar, of Greek descent, and Lawrence Harmon, who’s German and Irish.

Angie was only 15 when she won Seventeen magazine’s modeling contest that placed her on covers of publications, like Cosmopolitan and Esquire.

The dark-haired beauty’s acting career started when she was discovered on a plane by David Hasselhoff, which led to her first TV role on Baywatch Nights.

Recalling her first meeting with Hasselhoff, Angie said, “He discovered me on a plane and offered me a role on Baywatch Nights, but I said, ‘No, thank you,’ because I’d never had an acting lesson.” The star of Women’s Murder Club continued, “Oddly enough, my friend who was with me went on an audition for him two weeks later and he said, ‘You were with that girl!’ That’s where it all started; the opportunity came back, and I will always be thankful to David for believing in me.”

After two seasons of playing Ryan McBride on the Baywatch spinoff, Angie was a series regular on Law and Order, where she starred as the Assistant DA, Abigail Carmichael on 78 episodes.

She also loaned her voice to Commissioner Barbara Gordon on Batman Beyond and starred as Jane Rizzoli in the crime drama Rizzoli and Isles.

In 2001, Angie married the New York Giant’s cornerback, Jason Seahorn, who after a career-ending injury in 2002, was signed as a safety with the St. Louis Rams, formerly the LA Rams, in the 2003 to 2004 season, which would be his last. The couple divorced in 2016, but they share three beautiful daughters, Finley (born 2003), Avery (born 2005) and Emery (born 2008).

Both Angie and Mark have connections to the NFL and specifically the Rams, Mark through his dad and Angie through her ex-husband. Other than the NFL link and both being adored celebrities in Hollywood, it’s safe to say that Mark Harmon and Angie Harmon are not related!
