Michael Bolton’s rare diagnosis revealed – details we know

Michael Bolton, one of America’s favorite crooners, is going through a particularly trying time in his personal life.

Recently, his daughter, Taryn Bolton, confirmed her father’s rare diagnosis, which has fans all over the world concerned.

Keep reading to know all the details.

On 30th April, 2025, Michael Bolton’s daughter Taryn Bolton confirmed in an interview that her father was diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

She revealed that the first signs of the cancer became apparent to them on Thanksgiving in 2023. When the family was out bowling, her father kept bowling out of turn, which all of them flagged as “super weird.”

Earlier the same evening, he had fallen from his chair. She recalled, “He fell out of his chair to the left, which is very unusual. He’s super athletic, and he doesn’t drink,” adding, “So he fell, and we were like, ‘What just happened?'”

Other symptoms at the time were nausea and balance issues, which Taryn and her sisters, Holly and Isa attributed to exhaustion and stress that the singer was possibly suffering from. At the time, Michael was still very much active as he was in the middle of touring, filming a cameo for a movie and promoting his new album.

That weekend, Michael developed a severe headache for which he went to the hospital. An MRI of his brain revealed a tumor, which surgeons removed soon after. A week later, a pathology report from the tumor revealed it was glioblastoma (GBM).

Bolton shared the news with his fans in January 2024, explaining in a post what had happened. He announced a temporary break to recuperate from the surgery. The Grammy-winning singer thanked his fans for their support.

GBM, according to the Cleveland Clinic’s website, is one of the most common types of malignant brain tumors and is also one of the most difficult ones to treat. The tumor grows quickly and invades healthy brain tissue. There is apparently no cure to stop these tumors from forming.

The most common symptoms for this time of tumor is headaches, speech or memory issues, seizures, and changes to the personality.

Treatment for these tumors usually involves surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. While these can extend and improve life quality for patients, they are not a cure as the tumor will likely recur.

Taryn shared in her interview how she was not the only one to notice signs of changes within her father. Her sister Holly recalled when her father was out of surgery and began singing. A nurse who was unaware of who Michael Bolton was, asked his daughters if they knew he could sing so well.

As for Bolton, he spoke in the interview about how his life has changed post surgery. He shared that his treatments have affected his speech, memory, and mobility. However, the singer chooses to focus on the positive. He said, “Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You’re really quickly drawn into a duel… that’s the way you find out what you’re made of.”

Michael Bolton thanked his fans for all the love they had sent his way as he battled this tumor. He said, “I’ve drawn strength from your encouragement, and I continue to draw strength from it every day as I move forward on this journey.”

We are sending Michael Bolton our best wishes and prayers as he recovers from this gruelling episode. Share this with other fans of the singer so they can be kept up to date about his current life.
