Demi Lovato married musician Jordan Lutes this month in an intimate ceremony at the Bellosguardo Foundation in Santa Barbara, California. The bride wore a Vivienne Westwood gown for the occasion, which resembled the bridal dress Miley Cyrus wore to her own wedding to Liam Hemsworth in 2018.

Someone edited an image of if Cyrus were to have responded what would it be. The image was a picture of the two women in their bridal dresses side by side, with the caption, “Twinsies! I hope your marriage goes better than mine!”

This was of course about Cyrus’ marriage to Hemsworth, which lasted less than a year.

Social media was filled with comparisons of the two pop stars side by side after Vogue posted Demi Lovato’s bridal look. She wore an off-the-shoulder silk satin dress, that featured Vivenne Westwood’s iconic corseted bodice and a draped skirt.

Lovato has previously said she loves the designer’s work and was happy with how her wedding dress turned out.

While some made the comparisons, others were tired of the narrative. With one person writing, “They are both grown women, and we are not little girls arguing in middle school. We don’t care if Miley wore the dress first. They look stunning,”

The online debate grew so big that even publications like Cosmopolitan stepped in and explained how both of the gowns might look similar, but are not the same.

According to the publication, Miley Cyrus‘ dress in 2018 was a made-to-order wedding dress by Vivienne Westwood, which retailed for $8,600, while Lovato opted for a custom gown which was designed over five fittings with elements unique to the singer and her preferences.

“We were not only able to work off that [initial] inspiration, but we added touches that really make this dress so special to me,” the singer shared of her bridal outfit.

“When I was thinking about what dress style I wanted, I often found myself coming back to Vivienne’s designs—specifically how the silhouettes really complement the curves of your body and her use of corsets.”

The design used is one popular and almost signature to Vivienna Westwood.

Lovato has been dating since 2022, when the couple first met to work on the singer’s album titled Holy Fvck. The couple confirmed their relationship in August of that year and announced their engagement in December 2023.
