A rare outing between Julia Roberts and her 21-year-old son has fans doing a double-take, with the photos sparking a flurry of online reactions.

For Julia Roberts, protecting her children’s privacy has always mattered far more than sharing family moments with the public.
Even as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars, the Oscar-winning actor spent years making sure her three children grew up away from the attention that followed her career.
Speaking to CBS News in 2022, Roberts explained that although acting fulfilled one lifelong dream, it was never the one she valued most.
“It is my dream come true. But it is not my only dream come true,” the Pretty Woman star said of her impressive career. “The life that I’ve built with my husband. The life that we’ve built with our children. And that’s the best stuff.”
Roberts – who was married to country star Lyle Lovett until 1995 – was referring to Danny Moder, who she met on the set of the 2000 film The Mexican. The couple married on July 4, 2002, and are parents to 21-year-old twins Phinnaeus “Finn” and Hazel, along with their youngest son, Henry, 19.
‘You’re famous?’
Growing up, the children had little sense of their mother’s global fame.
During a 2018 interview with Oprah Winfrey for Harper’s Bazaar, the star of Runaway Bride recalled the moment they first started piecing together just how well-known she really was.
“When they were starting to figure it out, it was like, ‘You’re famous?’” Roberts told Oprah. “And I said, ‘I think a lot of people might have seen the movie that I’m in or might know who I am.’”
Even that explanation left them with one more question: “Maybe an hour goes by. [Then they ask,] ‘Are you more famous than Taylor Swift?’”
Public outings with kids
Now that Roberts’ children are adults, those carefully guarded family moments are becoming slightly less rare.
In mid-June, the actor was photographed outside Manhattan’s historic Jane Hotel with her youngest son, Henry, one day after he celebrated his 19th birthday. Hazel also joined the outing, while Finn – a student at the University of California, Berkeley – wasn’t there.
Many fans couldn’t help noticing how much Henry had grown, with the teenager now towering over his mother.
Just days later, Roberts was back in New York City, this time spending the day with Finn.
Looks like dad
According to Page Six, the pair strolled through Manhattan arm in arm, with Roberts opting for a relaxed look that included a loose black button-down shirt tucked into distressed denim shorts, cream sneakers and oversized sunglasses. Finn kept things equally casual in an oversized navy graphic T-shirt, olive shorts, striped socks, slip-on shoes and dark sunglasses.
The rare appearance quickly made its way across social media, where the focus soon shifted from the outing itself to Finn’s resemblance to his parents.
Some readers saw Danny Moder almost immediately.
“Wow…had to look twice. I thought it was his dad,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another agreed, commenting, “I thought that was Danny. He looks like his dad here.”
“I thought it was her husband. I was remarking how young he looked. Good looking kid,” shared another.
‘Aging gracefully’
Others spotted more of Roberts in the 21-year-old.
“Looks like his mom with red hair,” one commenter wrote, while another singled out one familiar feature, writing, “Lips like his mother!”
The conversation soon shifted from Finn to the star of Notting Hill, with several readers commenting on the actor’s youthful appearance.
“I thought this was a Couple until I read caption Julia looks great and. A good actress and she is aging gracefully that’s why she looks great,” one wrote.
“She looks like she is 40 years old. Gorgeous,” a second shared, while another added, “Her legs, she’s still got it.”
