Robert Pine was a regular on television screens everywhere. He played Sgt. Joseph Getraer in CHiPs and appeared in over 400 episodes of the show as a regular cast member.
Among his acting credits are also roles in “Run For Your Life,” “The Virginian.” and “Empire of the Ants.” He also had a role as the President “Independence Day” and also played Bob Caroll Jr in “Being The Ricardos.”

His wife, Gwynne Gilford is a legend in her own right. She is also an actress and has starred as Mrs. Winston in “Masters of the Universe.” Other notable roles for the actress include roles in “One Day at a Time,” “Gunsmoke,” and “The Young Lawyers,” she also starred as Betty Getraer, the onscreen wife for her husband’s character of Sgt. Joseph Getraer in “CHiPs.”
The couple has been happily married for over 50 years and have two children together; Chris and Katherine. Their son Chris Pine followed in his parents’ footsteps and happens to be a major name in Hollywood.
He now recalls how much he learned from his parents, especially about the dark side of Hollywood, the actor shared, “I learned a lot about the rosy times, the dead rosy times, the good times, the bad times, the flush times, the bankrupt times.”
Pine happens to be the third generation of Hollywood actors. His grandmother happened to be Anne Gwynne, an actress who was a known ‘scream queen’, recognized for her roles in classic films such as “The Black Cat” and “Black Friday.” She married Max M. Gilford and remained with him till his death in 1964.
Surprisingly, Pine did not want to become an actor. He recalled, “I never had a passion for acting. Acting was something that seemed to pop out of nowhere and then just took over my life.”
As a younger man, he was interested in sports. While singing, dancing, and acting were also his interests, he never thought of pursuing it after school as an actual career.
He said he worked perhaps twice as hard as other actors because he did not want to use his parent’s connections and success in their careers as a way to move forward. Soon he made his acting debut in a 2003 episode of the show “ER.”
A year later, he became an international heartthrob as he appeared as Anne Hathaway’s love interest in “The Princess Diaries 2.” But his breakthrough role was that of Captain James T Kirk in the reboot of “Star Trek.”
After that, he made smash hit after smash hit. He played Danny Valdessecchi in “Blind Dating,” Sam Harper in “People Like Us,” Steve Trevor in “Wonder Woman,” and Henry Pelham in “All the Old Knives” and other iconic roles.
In 2022, he made his directorial debut with the comedic mystery film “Poolman,” in which he plays the role of Darren Barrenman.
His father is immensely proud of his son’s success in Hollywood. As for his personal life, Chris Pine says he was never much of a party animal. The actor said, “No, I was probably the exact opposite! My delayed pubescence is coming up. I don’t feel bad at all.”
He has had relationships with some incredibly beautiful women which include reality star Vail Bloom and former Miss Reykjavik Iris Bjork Jóhannesdóttir
The actor has expressed his need for having his own family. In 2016 he said, “Yeah, sure, I guess at some point. I’m really happy to be working right now, and I get a lot of support and love from my family and friends. So I’m good for now.”
He started dating “Malignant” actress Annabelle Wallis two years later. The two of them were spotted together on several occasions. The couple also spent quarantine together, Pine shared about the period, “The first time in 40 years I haven’t been with my family, but I will be with my girlfriend and her family out here… Taking this year as it is, what it is… I’m going to open myself up to new rituals. Everyone is happy and healthy, whether they are in my family, my circle of friends, that’s all I can ask for.”
Sadly, the couple broke up in 2022 without any clear indication of what led them to a breakup.
