Terrifying simulation shows how woman died on escalator after scarf got caught in machine

A widely shared simulation has sparked concern online after showing how a simple moment on an escalator can turn into a terrifying tragedy in seconds.

The simulation, which has been going viral on social media through the TikTok account sebastiank22, shows a recreation of a fatal-style incident involving a woman wearing a scarf who got trapped in an escalator.

47-year-old mother of two, Naima Rharouity, was the victim of the horrifying incident, which occurred in January 2014. The incident happened at the Fabre Metro station in Montreal, Canada.

Per CBS, later,  a Quebec coroner stated that the incident was caused by her head scarf getting caught in the escalator, as well as her coat and hair, which sadly contributed to her death.

“The woman was strangled by her scarf and her scalp was lacerated by the teeth of the escalator before the machine stopped,” the report stated.

A coroner’s report has shed light on the heartbreaking moments leading up to the death of Naima in a tragic escalator incident that has shocked many.

According to the report, the footage showed Naima’s hair becoming entangled in the moving machinery as she attempted to free her scarf. At some point during the terrifying sequence, it is believed she may have lost her balance.

In a devastating detail, the report further revealed that her scalp was torn by the escalator’s teeth before the machine finally came to a stop. Despite rapid response efforts, it was already too late. Naima was found to be in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Coroner Paul Dionne noted that it could not be determined whether the scarf became trapped first or whether she fell and caused it to get caught in the mechanism.

What began as an ordinary ride for Naima ended in a horrifying tragedy within moments. The animation highlights how fast clothing can be dragged into machinery when it gets trapped in the wrong place, and if not, it’s an important warning to others to be careful.

A warning

The video has left many viewers shaken, with people pointing out how easily loose items like scarves, long coats, or bags can become dangerous around escalators if they get too close to the edges or moving parts.

Safety experts have long warned that escalators can be very dangerous when items such as scarves, shoelaces, or loose fabric get caught in the steps or side panels, although most of us probably think escalators are the safest mode of transportation.

Even a brief moment of distraction can be enough to cause an accident. Please share this article to shed light on this horrifying incident and to warn others.
