The 64-year-old veteran actress did so as a part of her aim to be more candid about her body and promote self-acceptance. In the picture, she is in her underwear, taking a selfie in front of a mirror.
In the caption for the image, Valerie Bertinelli wrote a message of gratitude for the journey she has been on regarding her physical and emotional changes over the years. While she made the post to bolster confidence for anyone who read it, it seemed to have an expected outcome if some peoples’ reactions were anything to go by.
In the caption, she wrote, “Every lump, bump, wrinkle, and saggy part of me just feels acceptance.” While some applauded her raw honesty, others were annoyed with her for ‘exposing’ so much of herself online.
People questioned whether it was appropriate for her to post this. Comments ranged from accusing her of seeking attention to suggesting that this post was unnecessary for someone of her age.
Bertinelli addressed her critics head-on. She made a follow-up post about how people should reflect on their attitudes. She wrote, “I hope you find a place in your heart to not judge yourself as harshly as you judge others.”
She added that her self-worth was not tied to what opinion others held for her and that she is at a point in her life where she loves her body as it is.

In Valerie Bertinelli’s 2022 memoir titled ‘Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today’, she talked about how long it took for her to accept her body as it was.
Despite her detractors trying to shame her for posting images of her body, she is confident in who she is. She wants women to accept their bodies as they are and for society to stop making women feel ashamed for what they look like.
