King Charles made a statement while he was entertaining the French President Emmanuel Macron during a state dinner in which he praised his eldest son Prince William. However, there was on major detail the King might have missed, perhaps on purpose.
A few months ago, Prince Harry gave an interview to the press where he expressed his desire to reconnect with his family. He said he “would love a reconciliation,” but it seems an olive branch was not extended from the other side.
In his speech, Charles said, “The Castle in which we meet this evening was begun by my ancestor — and your sometime countryman — William, Duke of Normandy, in the year 1070,” the King, Charles, said his 150 guests.
“It remains the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world,” he continued his speech.
“So it is perhaps rather appropriate that my son, the Prince of Wales, who shares that earlier William’s name, has made Windsor his home with his family, like so many of our predecessors,” he went on.
The speech went on to praise Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Briget and highlighted the strong alliance both the United Kingdom has had with France over the years.
A lot of people however noticed that the speech noticeably did not mention Prince Harry and his family.
The speech if an indicator of anything, also shows that Harry’s hope for reconciliation might not be echoed by the other side.
In the interview where he expressed his hopes for reconciliation, Harry also said, he did “not know how much longer my father has,” acknowledging his father’s cancer which was revealed to the public earlier last year.
Harry shared that his father did not address the situation with personal security for Harry and his family. Because of that even though he wanted to reconcile, he could not picture him or his family living in the UK.
Ther are experts who believe that King Charles also seeks to reconcile with his youngest child.
“Of course, he [Charles] would like Harry to be the prodigal son and come back, and would be much happier if William and Harry were friends again. But he realizes that is just not about to happen,” Ingrid Seward, a Royal biographer wrote in her book, My Mother and I.
Some of the press has long since hinted at how they believe Prince William is also behind the rift between father and son.
When Charles made his diagnosis public early last year, according to The Mirror, the palace commentary on Harry’s return to the country at the time was not seen as a reconcilatory moment.
“Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that [William] would not allow Harry to return,” they reported.
