John Stamos, born August 19, 1963, is an American actor and musician best known for his roles Blackie Parrish on the soap opera General Hospital and Uncle Jesse on the sitcom Full House.
Beginnings
Stamos' interest in the entertainment industry started in high school. He played in his high school's marching band and performed in his school's plays. After graduating from high school in 1981, he decided to skip college and pursue a career in the entertainment industry, a move which his family supported.
Rise to fame
Stamos got his big break in 1982 when he landed the role of Blackie Parrish on the soap opera General Hospital. His performance as the rebellious teen quickly made him a fan favorite and earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination. Although he found success on General Hospital, Stamos did not want to be typecast and left the show in 1984 to seek out new challenges.
His career reached new heights in 1987 when he was cast as Jesse Katsopolis, better known as Uncle Jesse, on Full House. The show became a massive success, running for eight seasons and cementing Stamos as a household name.
Once Full House ended in 1995, Stamos continued to star in TV, film, and Broadway productions. He appeared in Cabaret and Bye Bye Birdie and guest-starred in popular television shows like ER, Glee, and You. In 2016, he reprised his role as Uncle Jesse on Netflix's sequel to Full House, Fuller House.
John Stamos and The Beach Boys
In addition to acting, Stamos is a talented musician. He is an accomplished drummer and guitarist and has performed with The Beach Boys for several decades dating back to 1985. He frequently joins the band on tour and has even played alongside them during televised performances. Stamos has also made several appearances in the band's music videos.
Personal life
In his personal life, Stamos is known for his charitable work, supporting organizations like the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Project Cuddle. He is also a big fan of Elvis Presley and a self-proclaimed Disney fanatic.
In October 2017, Stamos announced his engagement to model and actress Caitlin McHugh, who is 22 years his junior, after one year of dating. Two months later the couple announced they were expecting their first child together. Stamos and McHugh got married in February 2018 and in April 2018 they welcomed their son Billy.
