In 2015, a 33-year-old man was kicked out of a Rhode Island hospital after he ordered a pizza to his room.
At the time, Steven Assanti weighed just under 800 pounds and was in the hospital so he could follow a strict dietary program. But one major slip-up cost him.
Prior to his hospitalization, Assanti appeared on Dr. Phil’s House of Hatred in 2007 where his addiction to eating and hatred of skinny people was broadcast to the world.
Nearly 10 years later, Assanti participated in My 600-Lb Life. However, he struggled to follow the strict diet Dr. Nowzaradan gave him and also developed an addiction to painkillers.
As a result he was removed from the show.
Weighing in at just under 800 pounds, Assanti struggled to lose enough weight to be considered for gastric bypass surgery.
During a three-month hospital stay, he lost 20 pounds.
Wanting to celebrate his success, Assanti ordered a pizza, but little did he know what a grave mistake it would be.
He was kicked out of the hospital, leaving him and his father without anywhere to turn for help.
“It’s an addiction, and I realize that,” Assanti told CBS. “And it’s a disease.”
In early 2023, Justin Assanti, Steven’s brother who also appeared on My 600-Lb Life, refuted rumors that Steven died.
“Steven Assanti did not pass away. He is alive and in his apartment. I have no direct contact with him but my father does and they talk everynight,” he wrote.
