
Everyone has a favorite Catwoman, whether it is Anne Hathaway or perhaps Halle Berry. But for some, their favorite Catwoman is the original one, Julie Newmar.

Julie Newmar is best known for her role as Catwoman. She was the first woman to get one of the most pivotal roles in the Batman franchise. She was Catwoman on the ‘60s Batman TV series.
She was recently spotted in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 15, of this year. During her public appearance, she rode a motorized scooter. She wore gray sweatpants, fuzzy slippers, and a blue button-up shirt. She also wore a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun out of her eyes.
The 91-year-old is not often seen out in public. She is active on Instagram. On May 13, she posted pictures of flowers blossoming with an accompanying caption, saying, “Our most glorious garden yet.”
Earlier this month, she posted a video of her time as Catwoman, starring next to Adam West from 1966 to 1968. She starred in 13 episodes, but was highly beloved for her character on the show.

“I was depressed — then I read what people had to say about me in the comment section. Oh My!!” Newmar wrote alongside a screenshot of her video of her during her time as Catwoman.
“She’s amazing,” a top comment under the video read. “I loved her as a child, and as an adult I can appreciate her comedic genius. Such an incredible presence ❤️.”
“Julie Newmar is by far my favorite Catwoman!” another person commented. “She had such a mesmerizing presence everytime she was on screen ❤️.”
She is rarely spotted out and about. In 2024, she was seen at a fan event where she wore cat ears as she signed autographs for her fans. In 2017, she attended the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con and CatCon.
In a prior interview she said, “I’m realizing that through all the shows I’ve done — the television, film and stage — all the mediums I’ve worked in, Catwoman’s costume was the one that allowed me to tell the story through my body.”
“The words were brilliant, and funny on top of that,” she recalled about the character. “The producer hired the right people to do all the lighting, to do this, that and the other, and it was the right time in the right decade. It all worked.”
She also voiced the character in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and Batman vs. Two-Face, which were released in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Julie Newmar was the first actress to do the role, but several big names took the role up later including Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and more. The latest actress to take on the role was Zoë Kravitz opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
Other credits for Newmar include another ‘60s series, My Living Doll, an appearance in George Michael’s music video for ”Too Funky.” She also made a cameo as herself in 1995’s To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything!
