Catherine O’Hara, who was best known for her roles in Home Alone, and later in the award-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek, has died. She was 71 years old at the time of her death.
The actress played the role of Kate McCallister, mother of the mischievous Kevin McCallister in Home Alone. Audiences around the globe immediately fell in love with her performance.
There are currently no confirmations as to what her cause of death was, but her manager has spoken to the media and clarified that the actress has passed away after a “brief illness.”
According to reports, the actress was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital just prior. Paramedics were called to her Brentwood, California, home on 4:48 a.m. Friday morning (January 30) for a medical aid call. According to LA Fire Department’s spokesperson, she was transported while in ‘serious conidition.’
Statements from McCaulay Culkin, who starred alongside Catherine O’Hara in Home Alone which launched both their careers to new heights of celebrity wrote a heartfelt tribute for her.
In an Instagram post, he wrote a tear-jerking short memorial referring to her as ‘mama.’ The actor wrote, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
The actress is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke. We will forever remember her.
