‘Jersey Shore’ star Snooki confirms ‘scary’ operation after diagnosis

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi says she had a “breakdown” after learning she would need a “scary” hysterectomy following a stage 1 cervical cancer diagnosis at 38.

In February 2026, Nicole Polizzi shared a TikTok video, explaining she received some devastating news from her doctor: “It came back stage one cervical cancer called adenocarcinoma. Obviously not the news I’ve been hoping for, but also not the worst news just because they caught it so early. Thank freaking God!”

The reality star, best known as Snooki on Jersey Shore, continued, “I’m 38 years old, and I’ve been struggling with abnormal pap smears for three or four years now, and now look at me…I just went and did it. And it was there, cancer is in there. But it’s stage 1, and it’s curable.”

‘It’s not fun’

For several years, doctors had been monitoring precancerous cells and recommending frequent screenings, but Polizzi admits she delayed those visits longer than she should have.

“I ended up not going for like a year and a half because it’s uncomfortable, it’s not fun,” she told People, acknowledging how easy it became to avoid something she didn’t want to face.

Even so, Snooki knew the risks. “I knew something bad could happen,” she admitted, “but instead of dealing with it, I just pretended it wasn’t happening.”

It wasn’t until repeated calls from her doctor throughout 2025 that she finally returned for testing. “My doctor was leaving me a voicemail screaming at me like, ‘You need to get in here. This is serious. You don’t want it to escalate.’ That’s when I finally went in,” she said.

By then, doctors found “a ton” of precancerous cells, and further testing revealed more severe abnormalities that required immediate action.

The emotional toll behind the scenes

After leaving that appointment, the reality of the diagnosis hit hard, leading to the moment she later described in detail.

“I had a breakdown,” the owner of The Snooki Shop told People. “I got to my car and I called my mom hysterically crying, thinking the worst.”

Despite that fear, further testing brought some relief, confirming the cancer had not spread beyond an early stage, giving her a clear path forward with treatment.

She added, “I was scared,” she said. “But you know what? It’s not the worst case and I can still deal with it…I’m gonna be fine.”

Preparing for a ‘scary’ surgery

According to her interview with People, doctors recommended a hysterectomy, a procedure that will remove her uterus and prevent the cancer from progressing. While the prognosis is positive, the idea of surgery has been difficult for her to process.

“I’m not great with pain, so thinking about removing an organ is scary,” she said. “That’s a part of being a woman and even though I’m done having kids, the thought of not being able to really upset me. It messes with you a little bit.”

Leaning on family and support

At home in New Jersey, Polizzi is surrounded by her husband, Jionni LaValle, and their three children, and telling them about the diagnosis was one of the hardest conversations she has faced.

“My two oldest were like, ‘Are you dying?’ Because they know what cancer is, it scared them a little bit,” she said. “But I was reassuring them like, ‘No, mommy’s gonna be fine.’”

She says the support from family, friends, and even fans, has helped her through the most overwhelming moments.

“The best part about everything is realizing how many people care,” she said. “I have a ton of people that are here for me and they love me.”

Connecting with others online who have experienced similar diagnoses also brought comfort. “I don’t know anyone personally that has gone through this. So being able to read people’s comments definitely helped me to just know that I’m not alone and everything’s gonna be fine.”

‘This is very preventable’

Now focusing on her health, Polizzi says she is making changes in her daily life and staying closely connected with her doctors.

“I talk to my doctor all the time now. I wanna be healthier,” she said. “I’m just trying to be the best version of myself because I’m getting older and I wanna age gracefully.”

More than anything, she hopes her experience encourages others to take screenings seriously and not delay care.

“I feel like nobody talks about cervical cancer,” she said. “The main point of me talking about this is for girls to get on their s**t and not do what I did…this is very preventable.”
