After years of staying away from social media, Jennifer Lawrence finally joined Instagram. However, in true Jennifer Lawrence fashion, she has made a post which is incredibly hilarious.
Keep reading to know more.
The Oscar-winning actress launched her verified account on September 9 with a tongue-in-cheek message telling followers that one negative comment could make her quit immediately.
But while fans were busy celebrating her long-awaited arrival, some quickly shifted their attention to something else, Lawrence’s appearance.
Within hours, comments about how different she supposedly looked began piling up, with some people even speculating about cosmetic procedures.
One commenter wrote, “Sorry, why doesn’t Jennifer Lawrence look like herself anymore? She looks more like a young Meryl Streep…”
Jennifer Lawrence Joined Instagram With A Very Jennifer Lawrence Warning
Lawrence’s verified account, @jlaw, quickly attracted millions of followers.
Her bio jokingly explains the username with the line “jenniferlawrence was taken,” immediately setting the tone for the account.
So far, her feed has only featured one main post: a short video in which the Hunger Games star addressed her sudden arrival.
Speaking directly to the camera, Jennifer Lawrence warned her followers that she had absolutely no patience for negativity.
“I’m giving it a shot, and if anyone says anything negative, I will quit immediately, no questions asked,” she said.
“If anyone thinks something mean, I’ll know, and I’ll quit.”
She continued the joke in an Instagram Story, writing, “Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby. It’s me. I’m the baby.”
Fans Couldn’t Stop Talking About How Different She Looked
Lawrence also followed a surprisingly star-studded group of accounts, including Josh Hutcherson, Leonardo DiCaprio, the Kardashian-Jenner family and Dakota Johnson.
Several of her celebrity friends welcomed her to Instagram, including Zoey Deutch, Joey King, Eve Hewson, Whitney Leavitt, Lily Collins and Noah Schnapp.
But some commenters barely seemed interested in the social-media milestone.
Instead, they immediately started discussing Lawrence’s face. One person wrote, “WOW!! She is beautiful without makeup? Right she doesn’t have makeup on right?” While another added, “Barely recognised her” with another person chiming in with, “She’s had work done.”
One person wrote, “Ok, it isn’t just me. I scrolled way too far in order to find a comment like this to confirm I wasn’t crazy. I watched the video and said ‘who is this person? Cuz it ain’t Jennifer Lawrence.’ And she looks good. It’s not even BAD work. Just very jarring. Looks VERY different.”
Her Recent Vogue Interview Only Added Fuel To The Cosmetic-Surgery Speculation
The timing of Lawrence’s Instagram debut probably didn’t help.
Just before joining the platform, she appeared in a candid Vogue feature discussing aging, beauty treatments and cosmetic procedures.
Lawrence openly acknowledged that she gets what she described as “baby Botox,” explaining that she doesn’t want to lose movement in her face.
“I can’t really get very much done,” she said. “I need to have movement in my face.”
She also revealed that she would “love to have a buccal fat removal,” a procedure designed to reduce fullness in the cheeks.
But she joked that actually getting it would be difficult because people would notice.
“But just know that I want that,” she said.
Those comments prompted some people online to wonder whether she had already undergone additional procedures.
Lawrence Has Previously Denied Some Surgery Rumors
The actress has faced appearance speculation for years, including claims that she had undergone a nose job or eyelid surgery.
Lawrence has rejected those claims, instead attributing changes in her appearance to aging, losing the “baby fat” she had when she was younger, makeup and contouring.
That doesn’t mean she has ruled out cosmetic procedures altogether.
She has previously discussed the possibility of breast augmentation after having children and has also joked about getting a facelift someday.
When asked about a facelift in a previous interview, Lawrence reportedly joked, “No. But, believe me, I’m gonna!”
So while the actress has been open about procedures she has had or might consider, that doesn’t prove the various procedures people speculate about online.
And perhaps that distinction got lost once her first Instagram post went viral.
Lawrence may have joined Instagram hoping to share a little more of her life with fans. Let’s see how the journey goes for the celebrated actress.
