Kelsey Grammer has bravely opened up on the murder of his sister, 50 years after the harrowing incident took place.
In a new book, the actor and film producer writes candidly on the loss of his younger sibling Karen in the mid-70s, going into detail about how it affected his family.
Grammer was 20 years old when his family received word that a body had been found in Colorado Springs that authorities believed was that of his sister Karen, 18. The family flew out the next day and confirmed, tragically, that the Jane Doe was indeed Karen, who died on July 1, 1975, just two weeks shy of her 19th birthday.
It was also revealed that Karen had been raped by three men before being stabbed 42 times.
Writing in his new novel, Karen: A Brother Remembers, Grammer discussed the haunting details of his sister’s final moments, as well as how her passing has affected his life ever since.
As per Grammer, he and his sister had made plans June 30, 1975, deciding to meet after the Fourth of July celebrations that year. Karen, though, never showed up.

Eventually Grammer grew concerned enough to call the police, with his sister’s body found hours after said phone call. Authorities would later piece together Karen’s final movements, revealing that she had gone to work at Red Lobster and was waiting outside when she encountered a man named Freddie Glenn and two others.
The trio had reportedly planned to rob the restaurant, but instead pulled a gun on Karen and demanded she go with them. They then tied her up and drove her to an apartment, where each of the men took turns raping her.
Glenn later stabbed Karen dozens of times in an alleyway, before leaving her for dead. Despite having been almost decapitated, Karen tried to crawl for help 400 feet from they alley way, but died in the doorway of a home.
“For a long time, the grief was so dominant that I couldn’t access happiness. The book helped me get to a new place withs that,” Kelsey Grammer explained of his sister’s murder.
The Grammy-winning actor stated his belief that sharing the horrific details of Karen’s death was done as it serves as “ammunition to keep Freddie Glenn in jail’.
Glenn, a serial murderer and rapist, is currently serving a life sentence in prison. His next hearing is due in 2027.
“You don’t want to eat yourself to pieces because you can’t forgive somebody,” Grammer continued. “But it’s hard to forgive a person who consciously decided they wanted to murder somebody you love.
“I can give you forgiveness, but you’re not going to get out of paying for it.”
Karen: A Brother Remembers comes out May 6.
