LL Cool J joins ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ season 3 reprising Sam Hanna role

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t watched the NCIS: Los Angeles series finale or the NCIS: Hawai’i season finale, you might want to watch them before you proceed!

On Sunday, after 14 seasons we said goodbye to our beloved NCIS special agents on NCIS: LA. And while we’ll miss each and every one of them, yes even the Admiral, it looks like one of them might be sticking around for a little longer.

Special Agent Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) made a surprise appearance during the NCIS: Hawai’i season 2 finale. Following his appearance, CBS announced Sam would return to the franchise as a recurring character.

“All of us at NCIS: Hawai’i have been huge fans of LL Cool J for years and couldn’t be more thrilled or honored to be adding his spectacular talent to our ohana for season three,” executive producers Matt Bosack, Jan Nash and Christopher Silber said in a statement, according to Deadline.

Sam’s story in Los Angeles ended with him receiving information about a medical study for his father and him and Callen (Chris O’Donnell) traveling to Morocco to find Hetty (Linda Hunt).

During the season 2 NCIS: Hawai’i finale, Sam assisted Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson) in Venezuela. He acknowledged his trip to Morocco joking, “I was in the neighborhood when I got the call. What’s a few borders and an ocean, anyway?”

“One of the most beautiful things about working on NCIS: Hawai’i is the show’s ability to bring the franchise together,” Lachey said. “We have had so much fun spreading the aloha to NCIS and NCIS: LA with the triple crossover. Now, we have the amazing opportunity to bring Sam Hanna to Hawai’i to help the island solve some cases and maybe have a few laughs in the process. Welcome to the ohana, Todd! It’s going to be a fun ride!”
