The high school’s marching band traveled from central Alabama to Washington D.C. to play in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. While at the nation’s capital, seven members of the band who are also members of the school’s choir broke out into song.

“It was really spontaneous,” choir member Isaac Crawford told WVTM.

“The fact that, I don’t know, it really just hit me we were in the nation’s capital. And we were just singing the national anthem and everyone just went silent. It just really meant a lot to me that everybody is listening. And you know, in this time of just like after COVID, post-pandemic, everybody is getting back up on their feet. You know, it gives us a little hope.”

When the students, six who will graduate in the coming weeks, began to sing those around them turned to listen and take in the truly once in a lifetime moment.

“It was truly just an honor to be standing under Jefferson’s statue and singing about what our country believes in,” Molly Bruno said. “And that it’s freedom overall.”

This isn’t the first time members of the high school’s chamber choir has received recognition for their singing.

The full choir has also performed on national television at Talladega.

Such a beautiful performance! Imagine touring the Jefferson Memorial and then hearing a choir sing the national anthem. It gives me chills just thinking about it.
