Kirk Kellerhals grew up knowing that he was adopted but believing that his biological mother and father were dead.
That was until, like millions of other people, he submitted his DNA to an ancestry website so he could find out more about his origins, and received an email that would change his life.
Thuy-Nga Thi Nibblet had fallen in love with a U.S. soldier during the Vietnam war. Despite falling pregnant when she was only 17 years old, she desperately wanted to raise her baby but her father wouldn’t accept a grandson who was half American.
When Thuy-Nga Thi gave birth her father took her baby to an orphanage; all she was allowed to know is that he was a boy.
By the time her son was born she had lost contact with her baby’s father and was forced to move on with her life despite the heartache at losing her child and first love.
Meanwhile her son Kirk was adopted by an American family and grew up believing that he was placed in an orphanage because his biological parents were dead.
A few weeks after Kirk submitted his DNA he received an email requesting he call a number. The voice on the other end of the line sent chills down his spine.
“I think you’re my son,” Thuy-Nga Thi said to him.
The information they shared matched the few details they had about each other and they talked for hours, ending the conversation with plans to meet up.
Coincidentally Thuy-Nga Thi had relocated to the U.S. and was living in San Antonio, Texas, while Kirk was living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Despite the 1,500 miles between them, they were at least both in the same country.
Thuy-Nga Thi made the long drive with her husband and her first meeting with her son was an emotional one.
Thankfully their first meeting was caught on camera and you can see the moment Thuy-Nga Thi is finally reunited with the baby she was forced to give up 48 years ago.
As the tears flow you can’t help but feel the joy that emanates from this mother and son reunion.
“It’s almost like living a dream,” Kirk said after meeting his mom for the first time.
The emotional and overjoyed mom also got to meet her daughter-in-law and grandchildren; her heart is now full, and she thanked God for answering her prayers.
Such a beautiful moment; I’m so happy these two were reunited. No mother should ever be torn apart from her child in this way.
I wish these two a happy life catching up on all the years they have missed. Please share.
