At 72, ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ star Catherine Bach stuns fans with new photo after recent health scare

Catherine Bach, best known as the sassy Daisy from The Dukes of Hazzard, is still going strong.

In a new radiant selfie, the 72-year-old actress looked in great spirits following a health scare late last year.

In 1979, many viewers remember being glued to CBS on Friday nights — especially when The Dukes of Hazzard came on. The show instilled family values and how good prevails over bad in every episode. Something not likely to be seen on a weekly TV series these days.

And for a lot of fans, one character stood out immediately: “Daisy Duke.”

The charming brunette, played by Catherine Bach, quickly became a cultural icon and a weekly fan favorite. With her famously insured legs, the Ohio native became known for her bold, trailblazing style — helping popularize short shorts on television and turning them into an instant signature look.

The former TV star, now 72, continues to make headlines and recently shared a glowing selfie on Instagram that showed her in high spirits.

In the post, she posed alongside a friend, looking radiant in a red blouse and jeans, with smoky eye makeup and loose hair.

“FAMILY,” she captioned the photo, adding a heart emoji.

In another post, she and her friend were seen smiling together at Halls Chophouse, a Nashville steakhouse.

“Through so many of life’s milestones, we’re more than friends, we’re family! Xoxo,” she wrote.

Fans quickly flooded the comments with praise and nostalgia.

“Hello Miss Daisy Duke!” one wrote.

Another added, “I bet you could still pull off Daisy Dukes!” while a third simply commented, “Still smoking!”

Bach’s recent posts come after a health scare last October, when reports confirmed she had been hospitalized due to an embolism.

At the time, fellow Dukes of Hazzard co-star John Schneider updated fans, writing:

”Attention Dukes of Hazzard family!! I just texted Catherine, and thankfully, she responded right away. Yes, she is in the hospital, but she assures me that she is going to be fine. She appreciates all our prayers and support and is truly disappointed not to be traveling this weekend. We love you, Catherine!!”

Co-star Tom Wopat also shared his support, posting: ”Tom and the Wopat Webcrew are sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Catherine Bach, who was recently hospitalized. Wishing her comfort and a full, speedy recovery.”

Ben Jones, another cast member, added at the time:

“Our dear Catherine Bach has just been admitted to the hospital in Los Angeles on an emergency basis. Catherine has an embolism that probably developed as a result of a recent surgery. We will keep you posted, and Catherine will share her story as soon as she is recovered. She is so, so sorry to have to cancel her appearance at Cooter’s this weekend.”

Stays connected with fans

Despite the scare, Bach has continued to stay connected with fans, even making appearances and meeting supporters in Nashville in the months that followed.

Looking back on her iconic role, Bach has often reflected on how Daisy Duke came to life.

“You would have, too!” she once told Fox News.

“The creators wanted me to wear a poodle skirt that matched the tablecloth. I said, ‘You want me to match the tablecloth? That’s demeaning to women.’ They went, ‘We didn’t come up with that!’ They took me across the street from Warner Brothers, and sure enough, there were these older ladies waitressing at this little Italian restaurant wearing poodle skirts that matched the tablecloth.”

She also recalled how the character’s famous look came together:

”The character is a conglomeration of many people I know. She is half the wildest girl I ever knew in high school. She is part of a couple of girls I was real close to in Georgia. She’s a lot of Dolly Parton and she’s a lot of me when I was a waitress. She is independent. She is physical. And she can do anything the guys can do,” Catherine explained in 1979.

What followed was unexpected global fame.

Bach became a household name, even appearing on a poster that sold millions of copies, with her legs famously insured for $1 million.

“I didn’t look at it as being a pinup,” she later explained. “On a personal level, my husband at the time didn’t like me working. So, I was going through this hard time emotionally, trying to be independent and assertive. Also, Warner Bros. wanted me to follow the same formula as Farrah Fawcett. But I felt like audiences wanted something else. They wanted an all-American country girl.”

She also acknowledged the challenge of being typecast, noting that it is something many actors go through. Still, Bach emphasized that she sees herself first and foremost as an actress, and remains grounded and appreciative of her legacy.

While she doesn’t make many public appearances these days, she has continued working in film and television. Her most recent movie role was in Holy Cash (2024), and she also played Anita Lawson on The Young and the Restless from 2012 to 2019.
