Amanda Bynes was taken into police custody over the weekend for a mental health evaluation. According to reports, the Los Angeles Police Department officers handcuffed Bynes on Saturday after receiving a call from a woman in distress.

The 37-year-old actress was taken to the police station, where a medical unit was standing by to do an evaluation and determine whether she was in need of any further treatment.

In photos gained by TMZ, Bynes can be seen handcuffed and being led into an LAPD cruiser. Three cruisers were sent to Bynes’ location.

Eyewitnesses to the incident reported that Bynes was “calm” during the interaction with police; however, she looked “defeated” as they dealt with her. It is unclear right now whether Amanda Bynes was detained by the police or released after the evaluation. A source close to the former actress revealed that she could be “inconsistent” with her medication which often resulted in such situations.

“Amanda was doing better recently and trying her best to take care of herself. She has been making an effort to go to AA meetings, trying to hang out with sober people, and she looked good. The only problem is she is inconsistent about taking her medication, which causes issues,” the source shared.

“When Amanda was admitted to a mental facility a few months ago, things weren’t going as well for her. She was very distressed, concerned about her past and reputation, surrounding herself with the wrong people who were bad influences, and not taking her medication,” the source continues.

The source said all of Bynes’ loved ones “want her to get home safe and get settled,” adding, “She is a great girl who means well and wants to get better.”

Things had started looking up for the actress following the end of her multi-year conservatorship in 2022. This news comes after a rocky few months for Bynes as she recently broke up with her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Paul Michael. She was also hospitalized for a few days in March.

The details of what led her to be hospitalized in March are not yet known. At the time, TMZ reported that Amanda Bynes had been placed in a psychiatric hold after being taken to the police station. At the time the outlet also reported that eyewitnesses saw the former actress walking in downtown Los Angeles naked and hailing cars. Once in a car, she told the driver that she was at the end of a psychotic episode and had called 911 herself.

In April, it was reported that she had been released from the mental hospital after three weeks and was said to have started outpatient therapy.

After the entire episode, it seemed like Bynes was getting back to her usual routine. Sources reported she was “doing well and taking care of herself.” She was even spotted getting a manicure.
