Kathy Griffin reveals concerning diagnosis – worried fans offer help

Kathy Griffin has been making people laugh for decades. But recently she revealed that in her personal life, she has been having quite a tough time. Keep reading to learn more about her diagnosis and the new information she has revealed about her health.

TikTok has become the new medium for communication for celebrities. 62-year-old Kathy Griffin similarly used the platform to reveal some personal information about herself. She posted a video that surprised a lot of people.

“Let’s talk about PTSD. Never talked about it publicly,” Griffin began in her video. “You can laugh or whatever, but I’ve been diagnosed with complex PTSD, and it’s called an extreme case.”

“If any of you know my story, you’ll understand that this really started for me about five and half years ago. Wink,” she explained. She seemed to be referring to the time when she posted a picture with a replica of former President Donald Trump’s bloodied head that led to a lot of people sending her hate. She fell out of a lot of peoples’ graces both professionally and personally.

Her professional career suffered a big blow with her gig to host CNN’s New Year’s Eve special being canceled. Apart from that she was also investigated by the Secret Service, put on a “No-Fly” list. Most if not all of her stand-up performances and TV opportunities were also canceled.

The repercussions of posting that image on her life were immense. The actress authored an op-ed in Newsweek where she called all of these repercussions an ‘erasure.’ She would not leave her home for months and began taking any prescription pills she could get her hands on.

She added in her TikTok video how her diagnosis of lung cancer in 2021 did not help much with her mental health situation.

To help the comedian and actress, a fan recommended combining medication with “EDMR therapy,” in the comments. The Cleveland Clinic describes this as a “mental health treatment technique” where a person moves their eyes in a specific way which processing traumatic memories to “change emotions, thoughts or behaviors” regarding their experience.

The comedian replied to the fan with a comment saying, “Yes, I am going to try EMDR,” Griffin responded. “My good pal Sia has been helping me out. She recommended a really good doctor.”

Earlier in the week, the comedian and actress shared the news that she had an MRI done on Easter Sunday. She shared a picture of herself bundled in a blanket while wearing a mask in a hospital’s hallway.

​​”Happy Easter??? Getting an MRI,” wrote Griffin in the caption, not giving any further information.

In August 2021, Griffin underwent surgery to remove part of her left lung and later in the same year appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and declared that she is ‘cancer free.’
