Many of us can handle a little light teasing, especially when it’s harmless and doesn’t attack someone personally.
Though, for this woman, her boyfriend‘s constant name-calling eventually tipped her over the edge – so she fired back with her own insult.
Now, she’s feeling his wrath and wondering whether she was in the wrong… Keep reading to find out what happened!
Taking to Reddit’s ‘Am I The A*****e’ thread to ask whether she’d taken things too far with her boyfriend.
She started off her post by writing that she and her boyfriend had welcomed a child last year and, since then, the woman had gained about 30 pounds. Though, the woman explains that she doesn’t think she’s fat – only her legs have gotten thicker.
Despite this, the woman’s boyfriend has made his opinions on her weight gain very clear, constantly making cruel comments to her about her size. “He keeps making comments saying that I haven’t stopped eating since I’ve gotten pregnant,” the woman said.
“Yesterday, I was preparing a bottle for our daughter when he said ‘why don’t you move out the way, you don’t see you’re big’. He tried to play it off after and said he was just talking about my butt,” she added.
The woman then goes on to explain that her feelings had been rather hurt from his comments, so she fired back and said: “At least a fat person can lose weight but your hair is never gonna grow back.”
(The woman says that, for context, her partner is 27 and “very self conscious” about his thinning hair to the point that he feels unable leave the house without a hat, even going as far as to turn back around and go home if he realizes that he has forgotten it.)
Apparently the woman’s boyfriend has been upset and angry with her since she made the comment, though she admits she did feel she had every right to insult him given that he’d made comments about her weight.
The majority of the people in the comments section were supportive of the woman, but there were certain users who believed the woman should have handled the situation differently.
One person was appalled at the boyfriend’s insults towards the woman after she’d carried and given birth to to their child, a daughter. “You had a baby and after the fact THAT’S when he decides to be mean spirited towards you and the body that brought his daughter into the world? That is all kinds of f***ed up, i hope you understand that,” they wrote.
Someone else simply asked why the couple was “being so mean to each other.”
Another added: “So many people saying she should’ve handled it better cause women should always take the highroad and take the abuse that heaps on them by men. If he dishes it out then he can take it. She never would’ve said that if he hadn’t continually disrespected her.”
There were a few users who were quite concerned about how the long term impacts of the boyfriend’s behavior, with one person commenting: “It is actively bad for your child to see her father insulting her mother’s body. Like, leads to eating disorders that can be fatal level of bad. It needs to stop immediately. If you need to remove your daughter from the house to protect her, do that.”
