Zooey Deschanel went on Carpool Karaoke by Apple TV+ with her sister, fellow actress Emily Deschanel, and expected to have fun. What she did not expect was to find the perfect man for her. Appearing alongside the Deschanel sisters were the popular Property Brothers, Drew, and Jonathan Scott.
After filming the episode in the summer of 2019, it seems sparks flew between the younger Deschanel and Jonathan Scott. The actress calls her chance meeting with the reality star a ‘meet-cute.’
She marvels at how her entire life changed because of filling just one episode for a show. The actress said in a recent interview, “This was, like, my meet-cute with Jonathan, my boyfriend. It’s so sweet to see this.” She added, “How many people can say they have them meeting their partner — the whole, like, first meeting on video? I don’t think that many people can say that — with our siblings present. Not many people!”
She revealed how the Deschanel sisters appearing alongside the Property Brothers was no a coincidence. She said, “It wasn’t random. They had come to me a bunch of times with different people. Some of them I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a good idea,’ but I couldn’t do it and then some of them I’m like, ‘I don’t know if that makes sense to me.’ When they said the Property Brothers and the Deschanel sisters, I was like, ‘That’s funny. I like the idea.’ I wasn’t thinking I’d find romance, but I thought we’d find a fun afternoon.”
She added with good humor, “But yeah, I mean, it’s defined me.” She added, “It was the best publicity — the best publicity that I’ve ever done, I guess.”
She began dating Jonathan Scott in fall 2019 and they have been going strong ever since then. “It’s true,” the actress reacted to the saying that we find love when we least expect it. She added, “It was really worth it.”
She recalled singing a Britney Spears song in the car and how Drew Scott had some moves he wanted the quarter to try out. Deschanel said, “I think Drew had this dance. He was like, ‘We’re all doing this and gave us some choreography.” She further went on, “I knew some of the actual Britney choreography, so it wasn’t hard to learn or anything, but it was fun!”
