Megan Rapinoe claims brutal championship injury is ‘proof’ god doesn’t exist

On Saturday, U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe played her final career match.

Unfortunately, the OL Reign forward went down in the sixth minute of the National Women’s Soccer League Championship against Gotham FC. She was unable to return due to what she believes was a tear in her Achilles tendon.

Despite the injury, the soccer legend was able to find some humor in the situation.

In the world of sports it’s not uncommon to see or hear athletes thanking a higher power for helping them excel, but Rapinoe, 38, says her injury is “proof” God doesn’t exist.

“I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isn’t,” she said, per the Daily Mail. “This is f—– up. It’s just f—– up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”

Rapinoe described the non-contact injury as a “huge pop” that left her with “the worst possible outcome.”

“Thank God I have a f—ing deep well of a sense of humor. It’s devastating to go out in a final so early.”

While Rapinoe is known for her skill on the pitch, she is also known for her activism, which in recent years some have taken issue with.

In 2016 she knelt during the playing of the national anthem in solidarity with NFL player Colin Kaepernick. Rapinoe continued her protest while playing for the U.S. National team, forcing the team to issue a statement.

The star addressed the issue by stating she would most likely never participate in the singing of the national anthem again.
