He’s risen to the top of the entertainment industry and boasts millions of fans all around the world, but it would appear Mark Wahlberg’s days in front of the camera are numbered.
According to reports, the Transformers star has gone on record to confirm that he ‘doesn’t think he’ll be acting much longer’.
Wahlberg made a relatively smooth transition from the hip hop music scene of the ’90s – where he initially rose to fame as a rapper in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch – to film. He first appeared in 1992’s Renaissance Man, and since then his career has gone from strength to strength…
Starring roles in flicks such as The Departed, Planet of the Apes, and Ted elevated him to a new stratosphere of fame, and today Wahlberg is one of Hollywood’s most successful actors.
Yet the curtain may be closing on his impressive career far sooner than his legion of fans might like.
Wahlberg, 52, sat down with Cigar Aficionado for the publication’s September/October issue to discuss his career and plans for the future. The interview yielded plenty that would be of interest to those who follow the actor’s life, but there was one nugget that stood out.
Asked about what his professional future might look like, Wahlberg replied:
“Well, I’m certainly working harder now than ever.
“Certain businesses, you kind of build them, pass them on or you exit. Hopefully my kids, we’ll see what their interests are, but I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now.
“That’s for sure. Because that’s the most difficult thing.”
Indeed, Wahlberg’s intense schedule is a matter of public record. Back in 2018, the Transformers star revealed that he would wake up at 2:30 a.m. and put himself through the day’s first workout between 3:40 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. I think we can all agree that’s not a fitness routine for the faint of heart.
On top of that, the actor has remained extremely busy over the past two decades, averaging more than two films a year. He’s also turned his hand to producing many of his recent acting projects.
“I started becoming a producer out of necessity,” he told Cigar Aficionado.
“I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio] to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it.
“I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce, that I knew was right for me, create my own destiny.”
