Elon Musk’s baby-making mission is back in the spotlight after one of his exes revealed the shocking comment he allegedly made moments after they first slept together.
In 2021, Elon Musk, now 54, made it clear that “there are not enough people” in the world, CNBC reports.
“I can’t emphasize this enough, there are not enough people,” the SpaceX founder said, adding that low and rapidly declining birth rates are “one of the biggest risks to civilization.”
“If people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble. Mark my words,” said Musk, who has repeatedly discussed his mission to support “legion-level” numbers of offspring “before the apocalypse.”
Though Musk is publicly known to have fathered at least 14 kids, multiple sources close to Musk told The Wall Street Journal that the “true number of Musk’s children is much higher than publicly known.”
Wants to populate planet
Musk first became a father in 2002 with his then-wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson. Their first child, Nevada Alexander, died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at just 10 weeks old, People reports. The former couple later welcomed twins Vivian and Griffin along with triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian before divorcing in 2008.
He later welcomed three children with Canadian musician Claire Boucher (professionally known as Grimes), including the famously named X Æ A-12 (now X Æ A-Xii), as well as Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus.
Around the same time, court documents revealed Musk had also secretly fathered twins, Strider and Azure, with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis in 2021. Since then, additional children have reportedly followed, including son Seldon Lycurgus and Romulus, the child Musk shares with Ashley St. Clair, 27.

According to the WSJ, St. Clair said she first crossed paths with Musk after he interacted with her posts on X before inviting her to visit the platform’s San Francisco headquarters.
“No one’s going to believe me, but I swear he was so much more normal before I got pregnant,” the social media star told her almost 215,000 followers on TikTok. “His demeanor was normal. I know I’m going to get roasted for this, but in private, he was funny.”
When she was pulled into what she calls the “Elon orbit,” she was working as a MAGA influencer and raising a child as a single mother.
“The chances of me getting married and the white picket fence and the white dress, I believed that was out the window for me because I was already ‘stained’ as a single mom,” she said in the clip. “But I wanted nothing more than to be a mom. I wanted more kids.”
St. Clair said that one of the biggest draws of Musk was his openness about parenthood and his belief that people should continue having children despite economic uncertainty.
“So, when Elon was like, ‘You should have kids, my only limited resource is time,’ of course, it is appealing to do what I always wanted, to be a mom, and not have to worry about the s*** going on in this economy,” she said in the May 15 TikTok clip.
“I don’t think that’s a crazy position to take, I don’t think that’s crazy reasoning.”
She also pushed back against online criticism suggesting she pursued Musk because of his wealth or status.
“Never was I like, ‘Ooh I’m going to make it big, this is my ticket to a Birkin. No, it’s more like, my kids are always going to be taken care of,” she explained.
“If marrying for money had been my goal, I would have done so a long time ago.”
‘Pick a name’
In the clip shared on TikTok, St. Clair claimed Musk made a shocking comment immediately after they first slept together.
“Pick a name,” he allegedly told her about selecting a name for their future child.
Months later, St. Clair joined Musk on his private jet for a New Year’s trip to St. Barts, a moment she described as surreal after their relationship had shifted from online conversations to something far more personal.
“I don’t know how to explain how surreal it is in that moment,” she said. “You’re like 23, I’m a single mom, and all of a sudden I’m on the jet of the richest guy in the world, and he’s pouring me red wine and telling me how nice the wine is.”
During that trip, St. Clair says she told Musk she was ovulating.
According to her account, Musk responded: “What are we waiting for?”
Romulus, who was born in September 2024, was conceived during the St. Barts getaway.
