Celebrity columnist Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., has seen his life change dramatically following a disturbing incident last month that unfolded during a TikTok livestream.

Perez Hilton seriously injured himself with a knife during the livestream on TikTok, which was being watched by thousands of people.
His sister, Barbara Lavandeira, found him unconscious and bleeding in the bathroom and called 911. Before doing so, she made sure Hilton’s three children, Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, were all safe.
The children are now staying with their grandmother, Teresita Lavandeira, while Hilton continues his recovery after spending weeks in the hospital and entering a residential mental-health treatment program.
Now, one of Hilton’s longtime friends is asking the public for help supporting the family.
A GoFundMe Has Been Launched To Help Perez Hilton’s Children Be Cared For By His Mother
Theater producer and longtime Hilton friend Tom D’Angora launched a GoFundMe campaign on September 17 to help Teresita care for her grandchildren.
A statement released by Hilton’s family the day before said the children were “together, safe, and doing well” in their grandmother’s care.
The family explained that Teresita had stepped in to look after the children full-time during what they described as an unexpected and extremely difficult period.
The GoFundMe campaign has a goal of $25,000.
“Like any grandmother who suddenly finds herself responsible for raising three growing children, she’s also taken on significant and unexpected expenses.”
The campaign says the money will help cover expenses associated with keeping the children in school, maintaining their regular activities and providing them with as much stability as possible.
It also makes one point particularly clear:
“None of the money will be used for Perez personally.”
About $3,700 had reportedly been raised within the first eight hours of the campaign.
Some People Say They Can’t Separate Hilton’s Past From The Current Crisis
While some people have donated or expressed concern for Hilton’s family, the fundraiser has also triggered a wave of criticism.
Many commenters argued that they couldn’t bring themselves to support someone whose career was built around celebrity gossip, ridicule and public humiliation.
“Eh… he’s worth millions from farming others trauma, use that money to raise his kids. I feel bad for the kids tho, we don’t pick our parents” one person wrote.
While another added, “Why? didnt he make enough money destroying other people´s lives? Why people must help him?”

The reaction echoes comments that appeared after news of the August 4 incident first emerged.
Some people went as far as describing Hilton’s suffering as “karma”, citing his long history of targeting celebrities including Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.
Hilton’s family subsequently pushed back against those reactions, asking people to remember that regardless of their feelings toward him, a real person and three children were involved.
“Celebrating” someone’s attempt to take their life “crosses a line,” the family said.
The statement continued by emphasizing that Hilton’s children had come “frighteningly close” to losing their father forever.
But critics also brought up Hilton’s own history of controversial coverage of celebrities.
Some pointed to his response following actor Heath Ledger’s death in 2008, claiming Hilton sold T-shirts featuring the phrase “Why couldn’t it be Britney?”
For those commenters, the fundraiser has become another point of debate about whether a person’s past behavior should affect how others respond when they are facing a serious personal crisis.
Perez Hilton Has Also Reportedly Been Facing Serious Financial Problems
The family crisis comes after what has reportedly been an extremely difficult year for Hilton financially and medically.
Although various reports have estimated his net worth at around $20 million, other reports have described significant financial difficulties.
According to a source cited by the Daily Mail, Hilton’s health problems began in March 2026 when he reportedly developed an ulcer and later suffered an organ perforation after taking flu medication on an empty stomach.
The condition allegedly progressed to sepsis, resulting in a three-week hospital stay.
He reportedly underwent abdominal surgery, had fluid drained from around his lungs and later required another procedure for a blood clot.
At roughly the same time, several reality-show projects he had pitched to production companies were reportedly rejected.
As his medical expenses mounted, Hilton reportedly moved from Las Vegas to Miami and began seeking psychiatric care.
His Las Vegas Home Has Now Been Listed For $350,000 Less
Hilton had reportedly put his six-bedroom Las Vegas home on the market for $4.25 million.
The asking price has since reportedly been reduced by $350,000, bringing it down to $3.9 million.
The developments come as Hilton remains in treatment and his mother takes on the day-to-day responsibility of raising his three children. However, many think that his finances should be enough to contribute to his mother’s growing expenses of taking care of her grandchildren.
One person wrote, “No thank you! I wish them the best, but as long as he’s been around, he should have millions banked.” While another added, “I’m sorry but he has money ! It’s ppl Out here working and barely making it and not asking others for money. This man is selling his home In Vegas for 3.5 million and doing this . Absolutely not”
